"Beautiful goddess of Ocean, please forgive my impertinence, but you are truly so beautiful that I hardly know how to begin."
Zeus spoke with great sincerity. Metis could not help but laugh when she heard him. "You came looking for me?"
When Zeus nodded, Metis asked directly, "What do you want from me? Who are you?"
"I wish to ask for your help," Zeus said. "I am Zeus, son of Rhea, Queen of Gods."
The smile on Metis's face froze for an instant, and her bright eyes grew more serious. She looked the handsome young god over, her voice becoming calm.
"Do you wish for me to take you to meet my father, Oceanus?"
Metis did not ask how Zeus had survived. As the Goddess of Wisdom, it was not difficult for her to guess.
As for why Zeus had come here, she had already formed a guess as well.
"No. As I am now, I have no way of drawing the attention of the great god Oceanus." Zeus spoke sincerely. "I merely hope to receive the aid of wisdom."
"Courage is the beginning of success, but wisdom is its guarantee. I hope you can help me bring this chaotic age to an end."
Just as Prometheus had said, opposing the King of Gods was a road of no return. While he still had nothing, there was no way he could persuade those Titan gods to help him.
Only after he made a name for himself and let everyone see that he had a chance of victory could he win over those ancient great gods.
Before then, he could only seek out the young Third Generation Gods. Among all of them, only Metis held the most important divine authority: wisdom.
That was why Zeus had come to find Metis at the first opportunity. At heart, he simply had no other choice.
"Bring this chaotic age to an end..." Metis repeated the words without giving her opinion. Instead, she asked, "How do you intend to do it?"
"To be honest, I do not really have a plan." Zeus gave a bitter smile. The young god, usually so sunny and cheerful, revealed a weary expression. "The King of Gods is too powerful. Compared to him, I fall far short."
"But I am unwilling to accept it. This world is too terrible—chaotic and disorderly. I do not want such a world. I want to create a better one."
The Golden Age of the gods had already passed. Ever since Kronos gained the recognition of this world and took control of the unparalleled might of the King of Gods, the world had grown increasingly chaotic under his acquiescence, even his encouragement.
The gods fought one another, constantly scheming and guarding against each other. Even the Ocean could not remain peaceful. The descendants of Pontus and the descendants of Oceanus were still fighting to this day.
And this was precisely what Kronos wanted to see. He cared only whether his authority as King of Gods remained secure. As for whether the gods lived well or whether the world was in chaos, what did that have to do with him?
Metis nodded without offering her own thoughts, merely continuing to ask, "Then what would this better world you desire look like?"
"I hope all gods can build this world together instead of sinking into meaningless conflict. I hope laws can collide with laws and give rise to more new laws. I hope this world will grow better and better. Harmony and progress should be its main theme."
He was not worried that anyone would discover what he said, because this was the Ocean, a place protected by the powerful god Oceanus.
Other than Oceanus himself, no other god could know.
Upon hearing Zeus's words, Metis's gaze softened, and a gentle smile reappeared on her face.
Metis did not like the present world. As a symbol of wisdom, she naturally understood that under such violence, the collapse of order was only a matter of time.
What was more, she could be considered a victim of this chaos. Not only could she not leave the Ocean, she also had to remain wary of the conflict between the Ocean and the far seas. This meaningless disorder left her unbearably bored.
Thus, after hearing Zeus's words, she thought seriously for a moment before speaking softly. "The King of Gods is unmatched. You can only begin from three directions."
"First, weaken his own power. Second, weaken his forces. Third, shake his foundations."
"Only after accomplishing all of this will you have a chance to defeat him."
"And what you can do now may begin with those blood relatives of yours who were devoured."
The more Zeus listened, the brighter his eyes became. Once again, he marveled inwardly. As expected of the Goddess of Wisdom.
At the same time, Kronos, King of Gods, left the divine mountain and headed for that endless Void.
Theron had sent word through Prometheus that he wished to see the King of Gods. Kronos was greatly surprised, but he went gladly nonetheless.
Kronos believed that Theron had finally come to his senses, understood his situation, and decided to bow his head and submit.
Kronos would not simply spare Theron because of this, but seeing lofty fate lower its head before him still pleased him greatly, so he decided to go.
Yet what he never expected was that when Theron saw him, not only did he fail to immediately admit his mistakes and beg for mercy, he still wore that calm expression as though nothing in the world was worth his concern.
Kronos's mood immediately soured. What he hated most was being looked down on, yet Theron remained perfectly respectful, leaving him no fault to pick at.
He could only suppress his displeasure and speak coldly. "Lord Theron, I hear you wished to see me?"
"Yes, Your Majesty the King of Gods." Theron said with a light smile, "I merely wished to tell you of some new revelations from fate."
"Oh? What are they?" Kronos asked without betraying anything.
Theron spoke with meaningful emphasis, enunciating each word.
"You... will be immortal forever."
Impossible to Imprison
"Your Majesty the King of Gods, you will be immortal forever."
Hearing Theron's words, Kronos was stunned at first. Then a strange expression appeared on his face.
Unlike his father, Kronos was not arrogant and conceited. On the contrary, he was exceedingly cautious and suspicious.
Theron's former attitude had been perfectly clear, and this sudden change made Kronos sense something unusual.
He became wary.
"You mean my curse has been removed?"
No matter what he thought inside, Kronos maintained a calm expression. Looking at Theron, his gaze carried hidden meaning. "I will be the eternal King of Gods?"
In truth, before coming here, Kronos had already made up his mind. No matter what happened today, he would deal with Theron.
Whether Theron continued to remain neutral and mysterious or changed his attitude and chose to submit, Kronos would not allow him to continue existing.
Someone who made him feel threatened—even if that person changed sides, Kronos would still doubt whether it was genuine. He could never rest easy.
Thus, he posed this deadly question.
If Theron admitted that the curse had been removed, Kronos would use the fact that Theron had previously said, "The curse cannot be removed," to directly accuse him of deceiving the King of Gods and imprison him forever.
If Theron said the curse had not been removed, then Kronos would use his statement that "the King of Gods will be immortal forever" as grounds to accuse him of mocking the King of Gods, and imprison him forever as well.
In short, no matter how Theron answered, Kronos had already decided his fate: he would be thrown directly into the abyss of Tartarus.
Still, seeing this person who had once made him deeply wary now bowing his head and begging for mercy gave Kronos immense satisfaction. Even his gaze became increasingly playful, carrying a hint of mockery.
He felt as though he had defeated fate.
He had accomplished what Uranus, the first King of Gods, could not.
He had taken his fate into his own hands. He had shattered the shackles of the curse. He was the true eternal King of Gods!
Yet before he could even savor that pleasure for long, Theron spoke again.
"The curse cannot be dispelled. It is the power of a contract, the binding of an oath, the law of the world."
Theron's tone remained unchanged. Kronos's shift in attitude did not stir the slightest ripple in him.
It was as if he was always like this—calm and gentle, as though he cared nothing for anything, as though everything lay within his grasp. This was precisely what Kronos found most intolerable.
Kronos's expression darkened at once. He looked at Theron coldly, and the world-creating might of the King of Gods began to stir, radiating unparalleled pressure.
"Then are you saying I will be immortal merely to toy with me?" Kronos said coldly, without a trace of warmth in his voice.
"You are immortal, but you will not remain the King of Gods forever." Theron remained calm, as though he had not noticed the rage and displeasure about to erupt from Kronos.
"Good, good, good. Theron, very good." Kronos laughed in fury, his voice so dark it seemed ready to drip with water. "Are you provoking me?!"
"No. I am stating a fact," Theron said. "Your Majesty the King of Gods, you should not be obsessed with eternity. You should be focused on the present."
"Theron! Do you truly think I dare not touch you?"
Kronos coldly cut off Theron before he could finish. The might of the King of Gods throughout his body completely boiled over, sweeping toward Theron.
At the same time, his incomparably majestic voice rang out from the Void. Carrying the ripples of divine power, it spread throughout the entire world—
"Unforgivable offender, the endless abyss is your rightful destination. In the name of the King of Gods, I declare Theron guilty of disrespecting the King of Gods! The sentence: eternity!"
The instant that vast voice rang out, the entire world shook violently!
Upon hearing it, the Titan gods, no matter what they had been doing, all looked up in shock toward the distant horizon.
Most of the newly born Third Generation Gods were still too weak to understand what had happened. They had not even heard the King of Gods's words clearly, merely feeling instinctive fear.
Only a few stronger Third Generation Gods, such as Prometheus, Zeus, and Metis, could realize what had happened like the Titan gods.
Having reached the appropriate level, most of them also knew of Theron's existence. Their shock was no less than that of the Titan gods.
Theron, the one suspected to be the God of Fate, had enraged the King of Gods and been imprisoned in the abyss of Tartarus!
The first thought that surfaced in everyone's heart was:
How was that possible?!
The reason these great gods respected and feared Theron so deeply was because, when he had still been weak, he had foreseen the future of the world. And it had not happened merely once—every single prediction had been accurate, as though he were fate itself.
While still possessing only weak divine power, Theron had even thwarted Uranus, the first King of Gods, an existence that had been impossible for them to deal with at the time!
It was miracle after miracle that made the gods increasingly wary of him, even suspecting that he was fate itself—something that could not be resisted or profaned.
But now, Kronos had imprisoned such a mysterious and terrifying being!
Was Theron not the God of Fate? Could fate itself be imprisoned?
How did Kronos dare do this, and how had he managed it? Was he not afraid of offending fate?
All kinds of questions echoed through the minds of the great gods, eventually converging into a single doubt:
Had Kronos become so powerful? Powerful enough to stand above fate itself?!
This was something even Uranus had failed to accomplish!
Even Gaia, Rhea, Zeus, and the others felt as though they had been struck by lightning. They had been counting on Theron to help them defeat Kronos!
Yet the great gods, stunned by shock, disbelief, and countless other emotions, soon noticed a problem.
There had been a judgment, but why was there no punishment?
The Twelve Titans had all personally witnessed Uranus, the first King of Gods, permanently imprison the Cyclopes and the Hecatoncheires in Tartarus. They knew that after the judgment came the execution of the sentence.
But they did not see Theron thrown into the abyss.
Gaia, whose earth bordered the abyss, could sense even more clearly that no new presence had entered. Theron had not been cast into Tartarus.
She could not help but wonder what exactly had happened.
And Kronos found it equally unbelievable.
