The no-longer-young King of Gods widened his eyes, his face filled with astonishment and shock he had not shown since becoming the King of Gods.
Clearly sensing his mighty power as King of Gods being dissolved by an invisible yet gentle force, he could not help crying out in discomposure, "How is this possible?!"
"Why is it impossible?"
Theron remained where he was. He did not seem to have been affected in the slightest; not even the hem of his robe was disturbed.
Still wearing that calm, composed expression, he offered Kronos a gentle smile and asked with faint puzzlement:
"King of Gods Kronos, are you trying to imprison fate?"
"Ah, that truly is..." He paused, his voice carrying a teasing note. "Quite courageous."
Utterly Shocked
Gods could not be killed.
Since the birth of Chaos World, none of the gods it had nurtured had ever fallen. Even Uranus, the First Generation King of Gods, had merely fallen into eternal slumber rather than truly perished.
But gods could be imprisoned.
Thus, the punishment passed down from Uranus, the First Generation King of Gods—being sealed in Tartarus forever—had also been adopted by Kronos, the Second Generation King of Gods.
Yet he had never truly imprisoned another god before. This was his first attempt, and the outcome caught him completely off guard.
At this moment, he could no longer maintain the dignity of the King of Gods. He could not even control his expression, his face full of disbelief.
Seeing his reaction, Theron knew he had achieved the effect he wanted.
As early as when he had brought about the end of the Golden Age and accelerated the birth of the Golden Humans, Theron had already reached the level of powerful divine power.
Though he still could not compare to the Titan gods, who had accumulated thousands of years at that level, he was no longer a weak god. At the very least, he far surpassed those Third Generation Gods.
But his power was rather special. He could make use of fate's elusive nature.
Thanks to Uranus, the First Generation King of Gods, after Theron's divine authority had been acknowledged, he had become deeply bound to this world's fate. The more prosperous the world became, the stronger he grew.
But he was not the world itself. His relationship with the world was more like that of fish and water. The better the water, the fatter the fish; likewise, the fish would do its best to make the water better. The two complemented one another.
Chaos World had no will of its own, but it accepted this arrangement. Thus, once Theron himself became strong enough, he could temporarily borrow a portion of the world's power.
This was something he had figured out over the past thousand years. His inspiration came from the fact that the King of Gods gained the mighty power of creation through the world's recognition.
Ordinary gods could not borrow it because they were not deeply bound to the world. The King of Gods could because he governed the gods and had done many things the world recognized. Thus, the world supported him in continuing to govern the gods and continue doing such things.
If that was the case, why could fate, which was entangled and bound with the world, not borrow it?
The success of this attempt showed him that the world did not support only the King of Gods. It even gave Theron many other ideas, though he did not have time to try them for now.
Perhaps in the future...
And although he had figured it out, it consumed too much divine power. At Theron's current level, he could only resist one judgment from Kronos wielding the power of the King of Gods within a short period.
If Kronos pronounced judgment again now, he would still be imprisoned in Tartarus.
But...
The corners of Theron's lips curled slightly upward. He looked fearlessly at the King of Gods before him, who was caught between shock and suspicion, his eyes full of amusement.
For the cautious and suspicious Kronos, once was enough.
"Your Majesty, King of Gods, perhaps you have misunderstood something. Not every god can be imprisoned."
Theron's expression was somewhat helpless, as though a kindly elder were shaking his head and sighing over a disappointing junior. "Whenever I look at you, I think of your father."
"He was just as naïve as you were back then, so his ending was not very pleasant."
Hearing Theron's words, Kronos felt a chill rapidly spread from the depths of his heart through every limb and bone. A silent, immense terror enveloped him.
He nearly wanted to take out the Sickle at once and use all his power to destroy this being who made him feel such a powerful threat, but in the end, he did not.
He realized that, facing Theron, he, the King of Gods, actually had no certainty of victory!
And without certainty of victory, he did not dare act.
His caution and suspicion made him think of the consequences of doing so. He thought of the mysterious means by which Theron, despite being so weak back then, had resisted Uranus. He even thought of Uranus's fate...
All of it filled him with fear.
For a moment, he had no idea what to do. His mind raced, and he finally gritted his teeth and commanded this space, "I, Kronos, in the name of the King of Gods, command this place: no god may enter or leave!"
He sealed off the entire Void.
He did not know whether this could trap Theron, but at least he did not want other gods coming to investigate the situation.
After doing all this, he gave Theron, whose smile and expression had not changed in the slightest, a deep look before turning and leaving directly.
The shock he had suffered at this moment was too great. Ever since being acknowledged by the world and sensing that terrifying power of creation, he had always believed himself omnipotent—absolutely powerful and absolutely invincible.
This was not confidence or arrogance, because the entire world had told him so. That powerful strength was what gave him such assurance.
But now, that understanding had been shattered.
He had not been defeated, nor had Theron attacked him, yet he was still deeply shaken.
He urgently wanted to question the Three Fates, even disregarding the reactions the gods might have to this matter.
None of the great gods were fools. They had heard the judgment, yet no punishment came for a long while. They immediately realized something was wrong. Some quietly went to that region of the Void, only to discover that the entire Void had been sealed by the King of Gods.
They could neither enter nor investigate what was happening inside.
But that did not stop them from speculating.
If Theron had already been imprisoned in Tartarus, why would the King of Gods go to the unnecessary trouble of sealing the Void?
It looked more like the imprisonment had failed, and this was merely a temporary delaying measure.
Moreover, after someone visited Gaia, the Earth Mother Goddess, and learned that Theron had indeed not been imprisoned in the abyss of Tartarus, the gods immediately guessed the truth.
Kronos had tried to imprison Theron, but he had failed.
And what did it mean when judgment had been pronounced, yet punishment had not arrived? That went without saying.
Countless great gods were shocked. They had long known that Theron's true strength far exceeded the divine power he displayed, and they had long known he was mysterious, but no one had expected him to be this powerful.
Even the King of Gods could do nothing to him!
Was this the wonder of fate?
No god could understand it, but they all confirmed one thing: in the future, they had to treat Theron with even greater courtesy. And perhaps he truly was fate itself.
Without realizing it, Theron's status in the hearts of the gods grew ever more important, and for all of this, he had Kronos, the King of Gods, to thank.
But Theron's purpose in doing all this was not for that, though these gains had also been anticipated long ago.
At this moment, Prometheus stood outside the Void, looking at the "cage" before him with an incomparably complicated expression. He recalled what Theron had told him when they met not long ago.
He had said that for a long time to come, the King of Gods' attention would be on him. Zeus could do whatever he wanted, and everything would become much simpler.
At the time, Prometheus had not known how Theron planned to draw Kronos's attention. He had only thought that gaining the full attention of a King of Gods would surely be difficult.
But now, he no longer had any doubts.
After this incident, even the curse would likely be pushed aside. Kronos's attention would definitely not leave Theron.
Though Theron seemed to have been trapped as well, it seemed that he had anticipated it long ago. Prometheus once again recalled what Theron had said during their last meeting.
He had said, "If I am trapped, do not worry. Before long, someone will come begging me to escape."
But this was a "cage" personally set by the King of Gods. Who could possibly free him? And they would beg him to escape? Zeus had the motive, but not the ability.
Surely it could not be the King of Gods who had imprisoned him coming to beg him to come out?
Prometheus shook his head, casting this unrealistic thought from his mind.
The Good Show Begins
"Honored Fates, I wish to know exactly how I can erase Theron completely!"
Within the mysterious Temple of Fate, Kronos looked at the three goddesses before him, his expression unusually unrestrained.
Since becoming the King of Gods, Kronos had not allowed himself any action that might damage the dignity of the King of Gods. He carefully maintained the bearing expected of one, even controlling the expressions on his face.
But now, all his composure was gone, and the fear in his eyes was impossible to conceal.
The Three Fates were weaving the threads of fate. Hearing this, they raised their heads, and three pairs of beautiful yet indifferent eyes looked at Kronos together. They spoke as one:
"Fate cannot be erased."
Kronos was instantly struck as though by lightning, frozen where he stood.
At that moment, Theron's words and the words of the three goddesses overlapped, repeating over and over in his mind, completely igniting his terror.
He finally fully believed that Theron was fate itself, because even with the mighty power of the King of Gods, he could not harm him in the slightest!
No, he could not let things end like this. He had thoroughly offended Theron. Perhaps Theron would seek revenge by bringing about the curse that terrified him so greatly.
He could not do nothing. He had to eliminate this hidden danger.
If he could not erase him, then he would imprison him. If he could not imprison him, then he would control him. In any case, he would never allow anyone capable of threatening him to exist!
With that thought, Kronos steadied himself. He regained his calm, and his appearance was no longer so unrestrained.
He looked at the three goddesses before him, his gaze gaining a hint of scrutiny.
He began to suspect that the reason the Three Fates had refused to cooperate with him and seize Theron's divine authority was not because they did not want to, but because they did not dare.
They had known from the beginning of Theron's mystery and strength. They knew they could not contend with him on their own, and even with the support of the King of Gods, they still lacked confidence.
That was why they had chosen to stay out of it.
That explained everything. No god would ever think their power was too great or that they possessed too much divine authority. Naturally, these three goddesses were no exception.
The essence of their refusal was merely that they could not do it.
Theron was simply too powerful. He had underestimated him before.
Taking a deep breath, Kronos cast aside all arrogance and complacency at this moment. He began carefully considering how to deal with Theron.
The only regret was that, perhaps because their level was insufficient, the Three Fates could only predict Theron's actions and could not join him in dealing with Theron.
But for Kronos, this was already enough. At least he knew Theron would not make any moves over the next hundred years.
This gave him time to think things through slowly. He would not act impulsively or recklessly again. He would carefully consider every detail, make sure there was no possibility of error, and only then act.
And just as all of Kronos's attention was focused on the Void, focused on Theron, a conversation capable of changing the balance of the world had already ended within the vast Ocean.
Young and brave, handsome and eloquent, optimistic and cheerful, and born powerful, Zeus had won the appreciation of Metis, the Goddess of Wisdom.
