Background
Bai Suzhen was originally a white snake who entered the Dao and received the name “Suzhen” from a Daoist. She possesses the bloodline of a fire-aspected Soaring Serpent, though she spent centuries cultivating water arts and derived comparatively little benefit from her bloodline. 374 379
She inherited a cultivation legacy connected to the ancient Greater Yin lineage and ancient Corpse Liberation Immortals. The inheritance was intended to use the fire spirit in her bloodline to temper the lineage’s excessive yin nature and make Yang Spirit cultivation possible. She also searched for the legacy’s original cultivator, whose incomplete yin-to-yang transformation and Lunar Star-associated foundation were believed to leave remnants behind. 375 377
For several centuries, Bai Suzhen cultivated at Golden Mountain, gathering Yangtze River water essence to refine a Lunar Water Method. By the time she met Yu Chen, she had nearly achieved mutual support between water and fire but could not determine how to proceed further. 379
She approached Yu Chen seeking help with an object left at Golden Mountain and accepted a transaction: Yu Chen received the repaired Bluestone Lotus, while Bai Suzhen recovered the golden needle left by the Lunar cultivator. Impressed by Yu Chen’s abilities and knowledge, she later sought his guidance on both her bloodline and cultivation impasse. 374 379
After entering Mount Tianzhu, Bai Suzhen obtained Yu Chen’s Profound Simplicity Method and intended to find the Lunar cultivator who had originally guided her into the Dao. Her aim was to use dual cultivation of spirit and flesh to restore that cultivator’s reincarnated self and comprehend the transformation between yin and yang, thereby turning her Yin Spirit fully yang. 432
The reincarnated Lunar cultivator proved to be Xu Xuan. Following an ambush by the master of Heaven-Covering Cleansing Xuantian, Bai Suzhen lost her memories and reverted to a little white snake; while living beside Xu Xuan, she gradually recovered her true self and later recognized the connection between them. 425 432
Appearance
In human form, Bai Suzhen is a poised woman in moon-white robes with long hair arranged in a spirit-snake coiffure. Her usual bearing is elegant and otherworldly, though her serpentine traits emerge under pressure. 392 398
- In her human form, she wields the Baiyi Immortal Sword and Water-Quelling Immortal Ribbon. 392
- Her eyes can become vertically slit like a serpent’s when dragon nature influences her. 397
- During intense combat, her legs may become a snake tail; scales, a forked tongue, and a more brutal fighting style emerge. 398
- She can reveal her true form as a white serpent to stir West Lake and cultivate dragon-associated divine abilities. 391 397
- After losing her memories to Heaven-Covering Cleansing Xuantian’s master, she reverted to an ordinary little white snake until her true self gradually returned. 425 432
- Following her ascension, she wears a Nine Springs Pure Water Star Crown, black robes embroidered with rosy-cloud cranes, dragonfish, and frost-snow ornaments, and vermilion jade-dew shoes. 455
Personality
Bai Suzhen initially treats Yu Chen with extreme humility, referring to herself as a junior and repeatedly seeking his instruction. Her deference is rooted in both gratitude and her conviction that his cultivation far exceeds her own. 374 379
She is fiercely protective of Qing Hang and the mortals harmed by Heaven-Covering Cleansing Xuantian. The destruction of a village and imprisonment of its worshippers’ souls provoked her anger, yet she continued protecting Qing Hang even after Qing Hang’s demonic contamination caused the two to clash. 383 384
Despite her demon nature, Bai Suzhen exercises restraint in battle. She intentionally allowed some hostile magical treasures to escape rather than destroy every opponent, hoping to prevent their owners from fully uniting against her. Daoist Yuan later judged this restraint as softheartedness. 392 393
She remained determined to become human and face the love trial believed necessary for demons to do so. Aware that emotional entanglement could endanger her, she entrusted a fragment of her memories to Yu Chen so it could be returned if love caused her to lose herself. 387 390
When she learned that her karmic bond with Xu Xuan formed part of a wider heaven-and-earth tribulation, Bai Suzhen did not retreat from it. She sought Yu Chen’s guidance, acted to protect Xu Xuan and the Xu Family from the Five Poisons scheme, and accepted the consequences of her choices. 434 445 448
Abilities & Skills
Yin Spirit Cultivation
Bai Suzhen is an old cultivator who has practiced for nearly a thousand years and condensed her Yin Spirit Dharma Body centuries ago. Her mana is exceptionally pure, but her inability to merge essence, qi, and spirit before reaching the Yang Spirit realm blocked her original path forward. 379 380
- Cultivates a Lunar Water Method strengthened through centuries of absorbing Yangtze River water essence. 379
- Her longevity before receiving dragon-qi cleansing was only estimated at two to three hundred further years. 380
- Cannot merge the Three Treasures prior to attaining the Yang Spirit realm. 380
- Her water and fire attainments eventually reached a standard comparable to certain Yang Spirit cultivators, although the world’s limitations had previously prevented her from uniting the Three Treasures and advancing directly. 432
- Yu Chen later assessed that her remaining obstacle had been resolved and that Yang Spirit and Primordial Spirit attainment were accessible to her. 425
Soaring Serpent Bloodline
Her fire-aspected Soaring Serpent bloodline lies beneath her water cultivation. Long-term suppression by her Lunar Water Method caused the bloodline to draw inward and reach an extreme state. 377 379
- Can imitate dragon qi and dragon nature through Yu Chen’s divine ability. 391 397
- Comprehended a trace of dragon transformation while cultivating at West Lake. 397
- Her draconic nature enhances her physical aggression but can overwhelm her reason and disrupt her refined bearing. 398
- Yu Chen’s cleansing of dragon qi stabilized the bloodline and prevents it from conflicting with her original mana. 399
- Her unusual water-fire constitution made her a desired component in the planned Yin-Yang Five Poisons method of Heaven-Covering Cleansing Xuantian’s master. 445
Water and Fire Arts
Bai Suzhen possesses both water and fire powers, using water-based arts as her primary combat method while retaining scorching, corrosive currents from her fire aspect. 384
- Manipulates water vapor, moonlight, clouds, mist, waves, and waterspouts. 383 392
- Used corrosive currents in coordination with Qing Hang, allowing Gui Water Yin Thunder to destroy an enemy’s body and paralyze his Yin Spirit Dharma Body. 384
- At full divine power, her mana spread through more than half of West Lake, granting substantial control over its water veins. 398
- Can use the Water-Quelling Immortal Ribbon to create cleansing clouds and mist that scour poisonous or evil aura from her body. 448
- As the Northern Water Virtue True Lord of Mercury, her movements cause surrounding water vapor to respond, and she holds authority to direct the waterways of the Three Realms. 455
Swordsmanship and Magical-Treasure Combat
Bai Suzhen is a skilled combatant capable of splitting her sword light, fighting while maintaining defensive spells, and damaging several enemy ritual treasures in a single confrontation. 383 392
- Divides the Baiyi Immortal Sword into numerous snake-like streams of sword light. 383
- Uses West Lake’s waters to isolate enemies’ treasures from their masters. 392
- Deliberately calibrates damage to enemies’ treasures for tactical advantage rather than indiscriminate destruction. 392
- In her battle against the Four Poison Demon Gods, she used the Baiyi Immortal Sword to sever the scorpion Demon God’s venomous hook and crushed or crippled the toad and gecko Demon Gods with her snake tail. 448
Ancient Corpse Liberation Knowledge
Bai Suzhen is knowledgeable about the distinction between ancient and modern Corpse Liberation methods. She explains that ancient practitioners emphasized comprehending life and death to produce harmonious yang within pure yin, rather than relying solely on a vessel for the Yin Spirit. 375
Mercury Divine Authority
Following her ascension, Bai Suzhen received a Heavenly Court divine office associated with Mercury and the water Dao. 455
- Received a strand of Nine Heavens harmonious Yang qi to cleanse her yin dregs before receiving her appointment. 455

Bai Suzhen seeks Yu Chen’s assistance regarding her Golden Mountain legacy and the obstacle in her cultivation. Mount Tianzhu Blessed Land

White Bone Lineage Incident
Bai Suzhen and Qing Hang discover a village devastated during Heaven-Covering Cleansing Xuantian’s search for the Fish Immortal. West Lake Dragon Qi
Yu Chen instructs Bai Suzhen to stir West Lake and cultivate a divine ability that imitates dragon qi. Her progress attracts cultivators seeking the alleged secret of ascension, leading to repeated battles against Daoists, aristocratic-family representatives, and the Five Mountains Hermit. 391 392 397 398
Yu Chen ultimately cleanses the violent dragon qi within her and restores her composure. The encounter leaves Bai Suzhen with stabilized draconic potential, increased lifespan, and a deeper connection to West Lake’s water veins. 399
Loss of Memory and Reunion with Xu Xuan
During a period of growing chaos, Bai Suzhen was ambushed by the master of Heaven-Covering Cleansing Xuantian, lost her memories, and reverted to the form of a little white snake. Xu Xuan rescued and kept her by his side; she eventually recovered her memories and realized that he was the reincarnated Lunar cultivator she had sought for centuries. 425 432
Heaven-and-Earth Tribulation
After Yun Liuzi’s transformation through the demonic thought of Heaven-Covering Cleansing Xuantian’s master, Bai Suzhen sensed a coming tribulation and consulted Yu Chen. Five Poisons Scheme and Marriage
Bai Suzhen and Xu Xuan married after recognizing their mutual affection. Their merged fortunes awakened contingencies from Xu Xuan’s previous life, rapidly advancing his medical skill, but also drew the attention of Heaven-Covering Cleansing Xuantian’s master, who intended to capture Bai Suzhen for the Yin-Yang Five Poisons method. 445 448
When Xu Xuan was poisoned and his soul began departing his body, Bai Suzhen confronted Jin Wu Dharma King and the Four Poison Demon Gods. She defeated their direct assault and set out to find Heaven-Covering Cleansing Xuantian’s master for the cure. 448
Pagoda Confinement and Heavenly Court Ascension
Bai Suzhen’s effort to save others by mobilizing West Lake’s waters against Heaven-Covering Cleansing Xuantian disturbed the earthly qi of Jiangsu-Zhejiang. As punishment, she cultivated in quiet reflection beneath a seven-story pagoda, leaving only to give birth to her son Shilin. 454
After Shilin became the top scholar and offered sacrifices to her, Bai Suzhen emerged from the pagoda and ascended with Xu Xuan. The Heavenly Emperor granted her harmonious Yang qi and appointed her the Northern Water Virtue True Lord of Mercury. 454 455
