Background / History
As a boy, Shi Yunfeng witnessed the lightning-struck Old Willow Tree descend in a sea of lightning and replace Stone Village’s former sacrificial spirit. Decades later, he continued to lead the village’s worship of the Willow Tree as its guardian. 4
In his youth, Shi Yunfeng traveled beyond Stone Village with more than a dozen powerful clansmen. Only he and one other man returned alive; the other soon died of his injuries, leaving Yunfeng the expedition’s sole survivor. The journey left him with lingering ailments and a hidden injury requiring an exceptionally rare treasure medicine. 3 7 30
For more than ten years, he researched Bone Script and used the village’s strongest adults in early experiments. His methods were once harsh enough that their agonized cries frightened the children, but his research later became safer and more refined. 3
Shi Yunfeng adopted Shi Hao after the child lost his parents, raised him on beast milk and medicinal food, and recognized his unusual potential from an early age. 2 3
Appearance
Shi Yunfeng is an elderly man whose age is emphasized by his white hair, white beard, and wrinkled face. Despite his vigor and authority, his body carries lasting injuries from his expedition beyond the Great Wilderness. 2 3 7 30
- White hair and beard. 2
- Aged, wrinkled features that visibly soften when Shi Hao’s baptism succeeds. 34
- Keeps a peculiar jade or white bone concealed in his robes. 3 30
- Suffers from an old hidden injury and is unfit for prolonged major combat. 11 30
Personality
Shi Yunfeng is patient, learned, and deeply protective of Stone Village. He prays for hunters before they depart, oversees the gathering of beast materials, and devotes extensive effort to ensuring that the village children—especially Shi Hao—develop the strength needed to survive. 2 4 7
He is cautious when lives are at stake. When Stone Village discovers the dying Suanni, he refuses to let the villagers rush toward its corpse, recognizing that other villages and fierce beasts will also seek it. 19 He also repeatedly warns Shi Hao not to become arrogant, stressing that the world contains powers far beyond their village. 7 30 34
His restraint has a severe limit. When Bei Village threatens Stone Village and learns of its ancestral artifact, Shi Yunfeng decides that survival and secrecy take priority, ordering decisive retaliation against those who could expose the village. 26 28
Abilities & Skills
Bone Script Scholarship and Instruction
Shi Yunfeng has spent over a decade studying Bone Script and teaches it to Stone Village’s children as the foundation of their cultivation. He explains its origins, its connection to primordial rune patterns, and the need to turn borrowed symbols into one’s own power. 3 30
- Taught Shi Hao the Bone Script that allowed him to manifest symbols in his palms and lift a bluestone as a toddler. 3
- Instructed Shi Hao in integrating runes into flesh and blood to cultivate within the Blood Moving realm. 29 30
- Possesses knowledge gained from traveling roughly eighty thousand li beyond Stone Village, though he openly acknowledges the limits of his understanding. 30
