Background / History
Wan Ling is the strongest disciple of Ancient Devil Xiqiu, who supplied him with cultivation, protection, and resources through the Three Thousand Divine Devil Grand Dao lineage. 783 His daughter, Ying Xun, died before the main events; the loss severely damaged his core strength and left him devastated for years. 720
Before becoming a Card God, Wan Ling earned unparalleled fame as the only person called the Federation’s foremost expert below that realm. His reputation stemmed in part from killing a Celestial Pit Deity as a Five-Star Card Master, a feat that made him a living legend among Yujing Academy’s incoming students. 264
He became dean of Yujing Academy’s Card Master Faculty and developed a brutal reputation for training disciples through high-risk assessments and Celestial Pit missions. Of his four direct disciples, only Bi Yi and Tang Jian still retained their status at one point. 269 314

Personality
Wan Ling is calm, decisive, and intimidatingly overbearing. He does not hesitate to destroy hostile factions, demand reparations, or use lethal force against threats to his students and the Federation. 287 381 389 His harshness extends to teaching: he considers hesitation, weakness, and failure unacceptable, and demands that Tang Jian create opportunities rather than wait for them. 314
Despite his severe methods, Wan Ling possesses firm personal principles. His Spatial Awareness allows him to infer another person’s thoughts and secrets, yet he deliberately refuses to pry into Tang Jian’s Red Card Cheater, believing that secrets should be respected rather than forcibly exposed. 282 283 He is fiercely protective of Tang Jian, repeatedly retaliating against those who target him and refusing to abandon him even when Ancient Devil Xiqiu advises sacrifice. 391 783
