Gui Xiao was dispatched by Holy Spirit Cult leader Zhongli Wu alongside Wei Yan to assist Mu Feng's Angel Holy Church. Though formally presented as a capable lieutenant, his status as an eighty-plus-level Soul Douluo led Mu Feng to suspect that Zhongli Wu had sent him to restrain and monitor the Holy Son rather than merely provide support 40.

He initially observed Mu Feng's execution of the corrupt envoy Yin Jue without intervening.
