Creed could not help letting out an admiring whistle. When he had spoken with Aurora, he truly had not seen that this young woman possessed such formidable combat abilities.
There came a knock at the door. Creed's adjutant, Kyle, reminded him that the regimental banquet would begin in twenty minutes.
After sorting through the documents, Creed grabbed his officer's greatcoat, casually draped it over his shoulders, and walked out.
Kyle raised an eyebrow. He knew Creed had little interest in banquets and the like. "Sir, you can't attend the banquet dressed like that. The Vostroyans and Mordians will think you're slighting them."
"Slighting them?" Creed blinked and patted Kyle's shoulder reassuringly. "It's fine. Let Liss and the others handle the formalities. A mere general like me won't draw much notice from them."
Kyle had no solution for Creed's stubbornness. He could only sigh and follow behind him, smoothing out some of the wrinkles in Creed's battle-worn old officer's greatcoat.
The banquet was held on the ship's observation deck. The quartermasters worked the control panels to raise the deck section by section, then directed the sailors to lay out white tablecloths.
The food on every table was equally abundant. As for whether it tasted good, that was not taken into consideration. Some officers who were particularly homesick had exacting demands when it came to how food was prepared.
