The plow-equipped front of the vehicle shoved everything before it aside. From the sky, it looked like a ferocious dragon churning up the earth.
"The number of microgravity generators has reached the baseline! No. 14 Mechanical Behemoth will break apart in fifteen seconds! Everyone, brace for impact!"
Alarms rang through every carriage. All the Krieg soldiers abandoned any thought of continuing to fire and quickly searched for the safety straps in the compartments, securing themselves tightly as they awaited the impact.
Fifteen seconds swiftly passed. At the control console, the Adeptus Mechanicus priest nervously wiped the mixture of oil and sweat from his forehead, then inserted his key-shaped finger into the ignition slot and loudly prayed for the Machine God's blessing.
The entire Mechanical Behemoth jolted violently as the key turned. The vast amounts of energy originally supplied to the microgravity generators flowed toward the carriage joints, charging hundreds of explosive bolts. These tools, originally meant to fasten objects in place, had been modified to launch the carriages.
Violent explosions erupted from the carriage connections, and the first carriage of the Mechanical Behemoth shot away. The carriages behind it did the same. However, in order to distribute the carriages more evenly across the battlefield, the explosive bolts had slight variations, causing some carriages to fly straight ahead while others veered left or right.
This tactic of launching carriages as fortresses had naturally been learned from the Orks. However, Orks were generally far tougher than humans, so their carriages flew even more wildly after exploding loose. Sometimes, by the time a carriage hit the ground, most of the Orks inside were already dead.
Tius had gone to great lengths to avoid such severe losses before the battle had even begun. The microgravity generators, far exceeding the number the Mechanical Behemoth needed,
