Warhound Titans were primarily used for reconnaissance and deep strikes behind enemy lines. As the eyes and ears of the Titan Legion, they marched ahead of the main battlegroup and operated in pairs.
Though Warhounds were far smaller than other types of Titans, the weapons mounted on either side of their hulls were exceptionally deadly. With careful tactics, even a Reaver Titan could fall to a Warhound ambush.
But could a Degraded Warhound compare to a normal Warhound Titan?
Benedict did not know. But as commander of the Cadian Hardstone, he had to eliminate that pale, terrifying Degraded Warhound for the other Imperium forces. Through the observation screen, Benedict saw the Degraded Warhound several kilometers away turn its left arm, then fire in imitation of a Vulcan Mega-bolter, shredding men with wave after wave of projectiles or directly burying tanks beneath them.
"This is the Cadian Hardstone. We will fire to test the enemy Titan's Void Shield energy level," Benedict said to the commanders of the other five Doombaldes over the vox channel.
As mobile fortresses and the undisputed rulers of the Imperium's armored forces, Doombaldes could naturally contend with Titans. A squad of five Doombaldes was precisely the standard unit for a Titan-hunting mission.
Once a weapon platform reached the level of a Titan, the armor draped over it was only meant to defend against small and medium weapons. The true defense against weapons of the same class was the Void Shield system. When fully charged, its shields could even directly block a Volcano Cannon shot. But correspondingly, if the Void Shields were on the verge of collapse, a Doombalde's Mega Cannon could punch through a Titan's hard, heavy armor.
Therefore, when Titans fought, using the smallest possible cost to drain the enemy's Void Shields was an important matter
