Gray led the Space Marines in a rapid run through the middle of the battlefield, closing in on the Orks' armored units. The Orks also spotted the Space Marines appearing in the center of the battlefield.
One Ork boss charging at the front saw the Space Marines and let out an excited roar. "WAAAAAAHG! Beakie cans, you're mine!"
The Ork boss swiftly broke away from the Ork horde and charged toward the Space Marines at incredible speed, leaving the Killa Kans and Ork tanks far behind.
His battle lust having gone straight to his head, the Ork boss had long forgotten Iron Bull's words before the battle. More Ork bosses also rushed out from the Ork horde and charged toward the Space Marines.
The Ork bosses' fierce display deeply stirred the Ork boys.
"WAAAAAAHG!"
After roaring, the Ork boys broke into a sprint, following behind the Ork bosses as they charged at the Space Marines.
As the Space Marines and Orks ran, they kept firing at each other. The Space Marines' aim vastly surpassed the Orks'; every shot from a Space Marine killed a charging Ork.
When facing Ork attacks, the Space Marines dodged with their agile speed, dancing like butterflies among flowers.
The two sides rapidly closed in at the center of the battlefield. When they were less than a hundred meters from the Orks, the Space Marines slung their Ripper Rifles back at their waists and swiftly drew their other weapons—Power Swords in their right hands and Plasma Pistols in their left.
Gray quickly aimed his Plasma Pistol at a charging Ork boss and pulled the trigger. A blue flash flared from the muzzle of the Plasma Pistol.
The blue light struck the charging Ork boss in the chest. A huge circular hole appeared where the Plasma Pistol had hit him, and through it, the running Ork boys behind him could be seen.
After being struck by the Plasma Pistol, the Ork boss fell stiffly to the ground.
Without even looking at the slain Ork boss's corpse, Gray met the charging Orks head-on. The engine of the Power Sword in his right hand activated, and a faint blue glow flickered across its blade.
Wielding his Power Sword, Gray charged into the Ork horde. Every sweep of the blade through the air took several Orks with it. Their crude armor was more fragile than the thinnest paper before the Power Sword.
Even in close combat, Gray kept an eye on the other Space Marines. When he noticed that several of them were gradually becoming addicted to the thrill of melee, having stopped running and begun enthusiastically fighting the Orks at close range, Gray hurriedly reminded them over the comm channel:
"Don't get bogged down. Move directly toward the Ork tanks and Killa Kans."
The Space Marines engaged in close combat heard Gray's order and replied one after another, "Received."
The few Space Marines who had stopped running to fight the Orks at close quarters also realized they had become engrossed in melee combat and forgotten their original objective. They hurriedly said over the comm channel:
"Sorry, Captain Gray."
Seeing those Space Marines start running again, Gray said, "Watch it next time."
The Space Marines tore through the Ork horde as though unstoppable. Whether ordinary Ork boys or Ork bosses, all were easily slain at the Space Marines' hands.
Under Gray's leadership, the Space Marines took less than a minute to break through the defensive line of elite Ork boys led by a group of Ork bosses, then continued rapidly advancing toward the Ork tanks and Killa Kans.
Seeing the Space Marines slaughtering his underlings on a massive scale, Iron Bull roared furiously over the comm channel:
"Killa Kans and Dirty Tanks, kill those beakie cans! Bosses, lead the boys and keep charging forward! Break through the beakies' line!"
Upon receiving Iron Bull's orders, the Orks' Killa Kans and tanks all turned their firepower toward the Space Marines. Overwhelming fire rained down like a storm.
Among Gray's Space Marines, the officers wearing Assault Terminator Power Armor charged at the very front. They activated their Void Shields to block the Orks' attacks, diverting every incoming strike into the Warp.
When the drivers inside the Apocalypse Tanks saw the Orks focusing all their firepower on the Space Marines, they hurriedly turned their cannons to support them. For a time, the Ork tanks and Killa Kans endured a massive barrage.
Countless Ork tanks were destroyed by the Apocalypse Tanks. The Orks had already possessed fewer Killa Kans and Dirty Tanks than Apocalypse Tanks, and after suffering such severe losses, they were even less able to exploit the advantages of their armored forces.
In a corner at the edge of the battlefield, more than a dozen Orks lay hidden. They were only a little over ten meters from the Defense Force's position, yet not a single Defense Force soldier had noticed their presence.
Watching the situation on the battlefield, an Ork boy anxiously asked the Ork boss Quiet beside him, "Boss, what do we do now? The beakies' tanks have suppressed our Dirty Tanks and Killa Kans."
Ork boss Quiet had also been observing the battle. From the Orks' initial offensive to their current complete suppression by the humans, he had become extremely agitated. He wanted to help Iron Bull open a breach in the beakies' position.
But even the nearest Orks were still over a thousand meters from the beakies' position. Even if he opened a breach by ambushing the beakies in their trenches now, he only had a dozen or so Ork boys capable of hiding. They would not last long against the beakies' powerful firepower.
Hearing his underling's question, Ork boss Quiet could only say helplessly, "I don't know what to do either. We've got so few boys; we're no match for the beakies at all."
Quiet's words plunged the other Ork boys into thought as well. They all tried to figure out how they could help their own kind.
An Ork boy rubbing his bald head suddenly said, "Boss, let's ambush the beakies' boss! As long as we kill their boss, the beakies will fall into chaos. Then the big boss can lead the boys and break through their line."
Hearing his underling's suggestion, Ork boss Quiet's eyes lit up. He said excitedly, "You're a smart one, boy. Right, we'll ambush the beakies' boss."
Another Ork boy asked curiously, "Boss, do you know who the beakies' boss is? What if we kill the wrong beakies' boss?"
Ork boss Quiet slapped the questioning Ork boy across the head. "I might not know the beakies' boss, but he's definitely the one dressed the fanciest. Come on, we're going to ambush the beakies' boss."
