Wu Zhengtao was left speechless by the retort. He gritted his back teeth and stewed for a long moment before viciously pointing at Cheng Yu. "You win."
"You're welcome." Cheng Yu tilted his head and flexed his fingers. "You're just too useless."
This time, Wu Zhengtao was so thoroughly shut down that he could not say a word. He could only leave in disgrace with his group of fair-weather friends, who had been shouting moments ago but were now timid and frozen stiff.
Cheng Yu watched Wu Zhengtao and the others leave, feeling delighted.
"Want some champagne to celebrate?" The club owner appeared out of nowhere carrying two glasses of champagne. He handed one to Cheng Yu. "Thanks to you, this is the first time I've ever had champagne this cool."
"Thanks." Cheng Yu took the champagne and drained it in one gulp.
The club owner smiled. "Let me introduce myself. I'm Shen Tao, the owner of this supercar club. Handsome, interested in becoming a professional racer at my club?"
Cheng Yu smiled as well and politely declined. "Let's talk after I get my driver's license."
Shen Tao raised a brow, not quite understanding what Cheng Yu meant.
Cheng Shao and Pei Yan finally squeezed through the crowd. Hearing that, they quickly explained, "Sorry, my brother is only sixteen this year. He doesn't have a license, so he can't be a professional racer."
"Wow!" Shen Tao exclaimed in surprise. He shook his head and gave Cheng Yu a wry smile. "You dared to get on the track without a license? Kid, you've caused me quite a bit of trouble."
Cheng Yu remained expressionless. "Isn't a boss supposed to solve problems?"
Shen Tao nodded in strong agreement. "That makes a lot of sense."
Shen Tao chuckled and snapped his fingers. The club manager, who had been waiting beside the track, hurried over. Shen Tao quietly instructed him to discuss it with everyone and make sure no videos or photos from the scene were leaked.
"Can you tell me how you practiced?" Shen Tao pointed at the spectacular replay looping endlessly on the big screen. "You unlicensed kid."
"I practiced with my hands on the steering wheel." Cheng Yu disliked being called "kid." He retorted expressionlessly, "Of course, with my foot on the gas and my hand shifting gears."
Shen Tao laughed softly and coaxed him gently. "Sorry, I shouldn't have called you a kid. Your driving skills are seriously boss-level."
Cheng Yu raised a brow, his expression turning strange for a moment.
Shen Tao immediately caught on and laughed speechlessly. He held out his right hand to Cheng Yu. "You really suit my taste. You're welcome to come here anytime."
Cheng Yu raised a brow. "You're not afraid I'll cause you trouble?"
Shen Tao smiled. "Isn't a boss supposed to solve problems?"
Cheng Yu smiled and reached out to shake Shen Tao's hand.
Seeing Cheng Yu chatting so enthusiastically with the club owner, the onlookers crowded over as well. They all spoke at once, excitedly and incoherently expressing their admiration for Cheng Yu's driving skills. Some professional racers kept asking him how he had done it—using the rear wing to open champagne during a drift. Leaving aside the technical difficulty, the idea alone was stunning enough.
"That was so cool!"
"Absolutely unbelievable!"
"I want to be your apprentice! Can you teach me?"
Surrounded by the crowd, Cheng Yu was somewhat uncomfortable with the noise and congestion around him. He frowned. "Too noisy."
The instant Cheng Yu's face darkened, the bustling venue suddenly fell silent. The crowd around him inexplicably felt a sense of pressure and automatically took a step back.
Cheng Yu's expression eased, and he began explaining to some of the racers the key points of using a car's rear wing to open champagne during a drift—actually, the maneuver was not as difficult as everyone imagined. At least, when Cheng Yu had been at a supercar club in F Country, a small number of people there could pull it off. They were not even professional racers. The key was the flashy concept and approach—before the #Bottle Cap Challenge# went viral online, no one had thought of using drifting to pop bottle caps from that angle.
Cheng Yu was simply telling the truth. But to the professional racers around him, it meant that although Cheng Yu was young, his skills were solid and he was humble and low-key. Moreover, he spoke with substance and held nothing back. It was surprising—he looked cold, cool, arrogant, and unapproachable, yet after getting to know him, he turned out to be unexpectedly sincere and straightforward—aside from expressionlessly refusing everyone who wanted a photo with him or to exchange contact information.
After this round of instruction, the club members, who had already admired Cheng Yu's driving, began to like him as a person as well. Quite a few older professional racers even started calling him "Brother Cheng" and "Brother Yu." They were truly giving him plenty of face.
Pei Yan and Cheng Shao watched Cheng Yu, who looked even more at ease while surrounded by the crowd, and could not help exchanging smiles.
Because of Cheng Yu's sudden appearance, the club's planned exhibition race clearly could not continue. Every racer was eager to try, filling the track's bends and lining up to test the new technique.
Cheng Yu retreated to the edge of the track and asked a server for a bottle of mineral water.
Once the crowd had dispersed somewhat, Pei Yan walked over to Cheng Yu. "Do you want to come to my place tonight?"
"No, I'm staying at a hotel." Cheng Yu had barely spoken when he saw a slightly pudgy middle-aged man in a checked polo shirt and beige casual pants walking over.
"Hello, my name is Wen Yangke. I'm a producer with Aodong Pictures." The man extended his right hand to Cheng Yu and introduced himself. "Our company is preparing a racing-related film. I think your image and skills are a perfect fit for one of the roles. Would you be interested in becoming an actor?"
The three of them looked at one another. Pei Yan laughed. "That makes two."
Wen Yangke did not understand what Pei Yan meant and asked in confusion, "What?"
Pei Yan smiled and explained, "I meant you're the second person to invite Yu into the entertainment industry. The first agent wanted Cheng Yu to become an idol."
Understanding dawned on Wen Yangke, and he smiled. "With Mr. Cheng's qualifications, it's perfectly normal for someone to recognize his talent."
Wen Yangke also knew that anyone invited to a supercar club was obviously either wealthy or well-connected, and they might not think much of the entertainment business. Fortunately, Cheng Yu was still young. From the way he spoke and carried himself, he also seemed quite keen on looking cool and showing off. Wen Yangke therefore approached him from that angle, trying to pique Cheng Yu's interest. "Being an actor is actually quite interesting. You can experience all kinds of lives. Besides, with such outstanding looks and such great skills, young Mr. Cheng, you deserve to be on the big screen and let everyone admire you."
