Pierce completely lost his composure.
"[The Daily Bugle]?!"
Alexander Pierce abruptly sat bolt upright. The trace of feigned calm on his face vanished instantly, and his voice rose sharply as he roared in disbelief and fury:
"Rumlow, you're not fucking joking with me, are you?"
"Isn't [The Daily Bugle]'s headquarters in [New York]? How the hell did they suddenly appear in [Washington, D.C.]? And they just happened to follow you guys... How is that possible?!"
"Who can tell me what the hell is going on?!"
His roar echoed through the office. Sitwell shrank his neck in fright, not daring to make a sound.
Brock Rumlow on the other end of the phone clearly couldn't answer either. He stammered incoherently, unable to explain the situation.
Just then, Sitwell, who had been doing his best to minimize his presence nearby, seemed to remember something. He hurriedly fumbled his phone out of his suit-trouser pocket, his fingers trembling so badly that he could barely hold it.
He quickly unlocked the screen and opened [The Daily Bugle]'s livestream. The moment he saw what was on it, his face went deathly pale, and he cried out in a trembling voice:
"Ch... Chief, this is bad! [The Daily Bugle] has already livestreamed the news that Captain Rogers was arrested by us... No, by [S.H.I.E.L.D.]!!"
As he spoke, Sitwell was already holding the phone in both hands. Like he was carrying a bomb about to explode, he staggered to Alexander Pierce's desk.
"What?!" Alexander Pierce's pupils contracted sharply. He snatched the phone from Sitwell with such force that he nearly pulled him off balance.
The phone screen was showing [The Daily Bugle]'s live broadcast. The footage had been filmed from high above and was exceptionally clear and steady, obviously recorded with professional-grade equipment.
