Death Trap (Part 2)

"We all know perfectly well that in this complex and dangerous world, beyond the grandiose rhetoric of diplomatic occasions, the fragile cooperation born of intrigue among those at the top, and the same old lofty promises politicians use to fool the public in their speeches...

"If we truly want to build a safer, better new world, sometimes that means breaking apart the old frameworks and systems that have already failed."

Alexander Pierce's gaze seemed to pierce through the clouds overhead and look somewhere far beyond them. He continued his impassioned speech in the weathered tone of someone who had seen through the world:

"But that also means we have no choice but to use certain... well, methods that may not seem very honorable to you, but are absolutely necessary."

He slowly turned back and gave Captain America a profound look. He seemed somewhat stirred, yet his tone was utterly sincere and righteous.

"Fury and I both know that the moment you try to bring about change, you are bound to face resistance. You will offend countless vested interests and make innumerable enemies... Sometimes, your enemies may even use filthier methods to frame you and smear your name!"

He pointed at Captain America, then at himself, as if hinting at their current predicament. "But in my view, that only means you have the courage to put your hands into the dirt, unafraid of being soiled, and try to create something better and stronger from it."

"Even though I am no longer the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., whenever I think of those terrorists threatening world security, and those enemies lurking unseen in the shadows...
