Background / History
[Cup] is an attribute associated with fertility, feasting, sensual desire, Temptation, Agony, blood, Craving, hunger, and thirst. Its influence drives possessors toward satisfying desire; those unable to resist may become irrational “walking corpses,” while stronger believers retain some control but still organize their lives around fulfilling Craving. 23
Cup’s believers feed on flesh and blood—especially that of living creatures and Transcendents—to gain strength, restore themselves, or satisfy hunger. This made Cup a historical enemy of living beings, and its existence was erased from public knowledge after it was supposedly eradicated. 298
The attribute’s hierarchy is unusually rigid. Believers are linked through an invisible network that lets higher-ranked members identify, suppress, command, or kill lower-ranked believers. Cup has seven fixed Archbishop “roads,” for which its followers compete. 132 366
A previous sealing operation against Cup required immense resources and sacrifices. Gods Heavy Industries supplied equipment and extraordinary-energy support, but later evidence suggested that Cup had survived or that the currently active Cup was a newly born successor. 399 401
Appearance
When Cup manifests directly in the later conflict, it appears as a woman with crimson eyes and an aura that stains the surrounding space red. Its combat form incorporates blood vessels, ropes of flesh, tentacles, and masses of altered flesh. 425 445 447
- Crimson eyes that develop blood-vessel-like patterns during battle. 445
- Blood-red tentacles extending from its body. 447
- Can transform controlled gods into grotesque masses of flesh and blood. 447
- Its domain causes the air and surroundings to appear infected or dyed red. 448
Personality
Cup is calculating, patient, and ruthless in its pursuit of power and ascension. It spent a long period arranging contingencies through cults, prosthetics, ritual circuits, and the corruption of powerful individuals before openly returning to prominence. 401 425
It readily exploits allies and enemies alike. During the conflict in Mansus, Cup manipulated Heart and Forge into attacking other gods, used their bodies as weapons, and took advantage of the gods’ mutual distrust. 439 443 445
Cup’s attitude toward Xu Zhi is unusually complicated. It treats her as a major threat and intends to kill her if necessary, but it also temporarily cooperates with her to shatter the rules blocking access to Mansus. 425 428
Abilities & Skills
Flesh and Blood Authority
Cup governs flesh and blood, allowing it to alter, proliferate, strip away, and weaponize organic matter. 441
- Can bestow proliferating flesh that rapidly increases a living creature’s physical strength and may grant supernatural abilities. 441
- Flesh proliferation accelerates conversion into a Cup believer, reducing victims to obedient “walking corpses.” 441
- Can create flesh ropes and tentacles to bind or attack opponents. 447 448
- Can attempt to control the flesh of beings carrying a [Cup] attribute circuit. 448
- Its control is less effective against Xu Zhi because Xu Zhi severed her circuit’s connection to Cup and can counter with her own Cup circuit. 448
Corruption and Conversion
Cup can infect Transcendents and ordinary people, transforming them into believers whose strength, vitality, aggression, and regenerative capacity increase at the cost of their humanity. 298 333 334
- Conversion can cause overwhelming Craving, bloodlust, excessive bleeding, and red extraordinary-energy circuits. 332 333
- Newly transformed believers may retain their former strength or become stronger while gaining new abilities. 333
- [Lamp] Transcendents are considered Cup’s natural counter; rather than being converted, a living Lamp user will extinguish when invaded by Cup. 336
- Human-made Cup-attribute Transcendents can exist without being controlled by Cup, as demonstrated by Gods Heavy Industries’ experimental subject. 415
Divine Empowerment and Hierarchy
Cup grants power directly to its believers rather than requiring the normal path through Mansus. Its followers receive strength through its gifts, blood offerings, sacrifices, and their connection to its hierarchy. 366 381
- A newly converted believer can advance rapidly without passing through Mansus. 366
- Cup’s direct empowerment may raise a follower to Named rank almost overnight, but leaves that power dependent on the god that bestowed it. 383
- Higher-ranked believers can sense nearby believers and their ranks. 383
- Cup can command its Archbishops through direct orders, including ordering the capture and sacrifice of Agents. 404
- The seven Archbishop roads are fixed; losing one deprives Cup of an entire route of power. 132
Blood Offerings and Energy Accumulation
Cup derives power from flesh and blood, using sacrifices as a source of extraordinary energy. 298 381
- The Federation’s ritual array consumed flesh-and-blood life across Federation soil to fill Cup’s black-sun manifestation to overflowing. 184
- Lotus City’s massive formation was ultimately revealed to be intended to gather flesh and blood and accumulate energy for Cup. 401
- The worldwide activation of Lotus City prosthetics turned Cup’s followers violent and triggered large-scale chaos. 401
Domination of Believers and Gods
Cup can use blood-vessel-like connections to erode the minds and circuits of powerful beings, turning them into puppets. 439 445
- Heart was secretly invaded and manipulated into attacking former allies. 439
- Heart and Forge were fully controlled after Cup’s blood vessels spread over their faces and circuits. 445
- Controlled gods can be used as extensions of Cup’s own body and power. 445
- Cup used Heart and Forge’s transformed bodies to create flesh-and-blood restraints against Lamp. 447
Domain and Precognition
Cup possesses a domain that expands its perception and suppresses everything connected to the [Cup] attribute. 448
- Can use precognition to evade Lamp’s attacks. 445
- Its domain sharply enhances its senses and allows it to perceive Cup-related circuits and energy. 448
- Within the domain, beings with blood and flesh fall under Cup’s authority. 448
- Activating the domain makes Cup more vulnerable to Radiance’s aura. 448
Believer Hierarchy
| Rank / Group | Known Details |
|---|---|
| Fanatics | Low-control believers overwhelmed by desire and reduced to mindless behavior. 23 |
| The Redeemed | Believers with extreme vitality; may survive decapitation and severe limb loss. 334 |
| Messenger | Rank encompassing Longevity through Named stages. 366 |
| Archbishop | Holder of one of Cup’s seven fixed roads; can sense other Archbishops and command lower-ranked believers. 132 383 |
| Saintess | A cult title bestowed on Xu Zhi’s Spirit Vessel immediately after her conversion. 366 |
Story Role / Major Arcs
Loss of the Wrath Road
Xu Zhi used a fragment to sacrifice the [Cup] attribute she had acquired, producing a red “fragment of Cup” that drew Aberrations toward it. 129 Little Aberration later became the Cup Archbishop of Wrath and was left to suppress a rift, causing Cup to lose one of its seven fixed Archbishop roads. 132
Cup reacted by marking Xu Zhi as an enemy. During a blood moon, Cup-aligned Archbishops received the order to find and kill the person who had stolen what belonged to Cup. 136
Return to Public Awareness
Cup incidents in Minjiang City and elsewhere revealed that its believers had not truly vanished. Although the authorities had erased Cup from education and historical records, its renewed presence became impossible to conceal. 272 298
During the Intercollegiate League, Minjiang’s team transformed into Cup believers live on broadcast. Their visible gain in strength and abilities spread Cup’s name—and the temptation of its power—to the public. 332 333 334
Lotus City and Worldwide Chaos
Cup’s followers and cults spread after the league incident, especially among desperate people in lower districts. 363 In Lotus City, a ritual flooded the city with abundant Cup energy, empowering believers while eroding ordinary people and weaker Transcendents. 384
Cup’s long-planned prosthetic scheme then activated followers across multiple cities, causing simultaneous violence, proxy defections, and widespread panic. 401 Its influence grew further as public fear and instability drove more people to seek power through Cup. 409
Xu Zhi’s Infiltration
Xu Zhi deliberately created a Spirit Vessel and joined a Cup cult to gain information and power from within. Her vessel resisted full corruption through split consciousness and prior resistance to Temptation, but still acquired a thirst-like hunger and altered thought patterns. 364 366
Cup noticed Xu Zhi’s exceptional talent and directly empowered her Spirit Vessel. The cult elevated her to “Saintess,” while she rapidly advanced through Cup’s hierarchy and later became the Archbishop of Sloth. 366 383
Alliance and Conflict in Mansus
When divine rules prevented entry into Mansus, Cup proposed that Xu Zhi help shatter the weakening rules during its attempt to enter. The two formed a temporary alliance despite mutual suspicion. 425
Cup withstood a massive golden hand formed from concentrated rules, giving Xu Zhi an opening to use Xiao Zhen against the rules’ weak point. 426 After entering Mansus, Cup fought the other gods, exploited their infighting, and used its control over Heart and Forge to turn the battle in its favor. 437 439 445
Near the Gate of Ascension, Cup pursued Xu Zhi and attempted to seize control of her body through their shared [Cup] attribute. Xu Zhi’s resistance and evasive abilities prevented Cup from decisively locating or restraining her. 448 449
Relationships
- Xu Zhi — Enemy, infiltrator, and temporary ally. Xu Zhi destroyed Cup’s Wrath road, later became its Archbishop of Sloth under false pretenses, and cooperated with Cup only to break into Mansus. 132 383 425
- Little Aberration / Wrath — Cup Archbishop road taken from Cup after Little Aberration became the Archbishop of Wrath and sealed the rift. 132
- Lamp — Natural opposing attribute and major enemy. Cup fought Lamp directly in Mansus and sought to overwhelm it through controlled gods and flesh-based restraints. 336 445 447
- Heart — Manipulated and converted into Cup’s puppet during the Mansus conflict. 439 445
- Forge — Temporary collaborator before being controlled and used as a puppet by Cup. 438 445
- Moth — Enemy in Mansus. Cup used flesh proliferation on Moth, attempting to make Mansus reject it. 441
- Cup believers — Followers linked by a hierarchy that enforces obedience from lower ranks to higher ranks. 366
Notable Quotes
“Does little Zhi think running away is useful?”
— Cup to Xu Zhi 449
Trivia
- Cup’s attribute description explicitly identifies it as “the principle of fertility and feasting.” 23
- The suppression of public knowledge about Cup was intended to deprive it of rule power, since widely known and widely used rules become stronger. 427
- Cup’s followers can bypass Mansus because their power is bestowed through their god rather than drawn directly from the energy dispersed by Radiance. 381
