Background / History
Gregor accepted Lynn as an apprentice after initially rejecting him as a likely source of trouble. Lynn's promise to offer unusual perspectives on Gregor's research ultimately persuaded the exhausted Wizard to relent. 25
He maintained a disorderly laboratory filled with instruments, books, materials, and bone plates. Gregor imposed almost no duties on his apprentices, provided they did not damage his reputation or interrupt his experiments; at the time of Lynn's arrival, he had four apprentices. 27
For more than a century, Gregor pursued the Myriad Phenomena path: the attempt to comprehend and integrate many laws rather than specializing in one. His lack of progress left him convinced that the path might be impossible, while his peers regarded him as a failure. 53 76
His principal research, Death Metamorphosis—later associated with the Death Blossom ritual—aimed to improve mental power and innate talent. Academy funding for the project diminished over time, forcing Gregor to support it through teaching and assignments. 53 Lynn's analytical insights resolved several long-standing theoretical problems, accelerating the project. 86 144
When Lynn was mortally injured by Megatron, Gregor received the distress signal from the Dissipation Ring and brought him back to the laboratory. He initially considered transforming Lynn into an undead, then used Lynn's near-death state to perform the dangerous Death Blossom ritual. The experiment restored Lynn, but Gregor later acknowledged that its miraculous success could not be replicated. 157 158 163
Lynn's later advancement to the Myriad Phenomena Stigma proved that Gregor's lifelong path was viable. Overjoyed by this validation, Gregor moved his laboratory to Lynn's Stigmata Domain to study its Rule Net, eventually weaving a smaller, imperfect network of more than thirty Rule Chains of his own. 404 408 567 612
Appearance
Gregor is usually seen as a tired, unkempt researcher whose appearance reflects his habit of neglecting everything except his experiments. 25 27
- Cloudy, bloodshot eyes and a pale, worn face. 25 114
- Messy hair, often described as a bird's nest, and an unshaven beard. 27 114 429
- Commonly wears a stained gray Wizard robe. 27 429
- Has withered hands used for rune work and spellcasting. 93 122
- When preparing for Lynn's promotion banquet, he wore a dark-gold Wizard robe, combed back his hair, and shaved his beard, revealing a sharply defined jawline. 414
Personality
Gregor is gruff, impatient, and intensely research-obsessed. He frequently dismisses concern with insults or sarcasm, especially when Lynn asks for help, yet repeatedly intervenes to protect his apprentice when danger becomes serious. 93 117 121
His curiosity can override caution. Upon hearing of Formal Wizard-level energy in the Rubble Graveyard, he immediately abandoned his work and personally investigated the anomaly with Lynn. 122 The same obsession makes him ethically reckless: he chose to conduct the Death Blossom ritual on the dying Lynn in pursuit of experimental proof. 158
Despite his blunt manner, Gregor values his apprentices' potential and takes genuine pride in their achievements. He gave Lynn resources, protective items, advanced research access, and support throughout his growth, later accepting that Lynn had surpassed him in the study of rules. 50 144 404 612
Abilities & Skills
Gregor's Paradox Deflection
Gregor's signature defensive Wizardry creates a force field that protects its occupants through perception distortion, energy refraction, and paradox-based stabilization. 122 123
- Interferes with how nearby creatures, mechanical units, and undead perceive Gregor and those within the field. 122
- Identifies and refracts different energy attacks, automatically optimizing the angle and intensity of deflection. 122
- Disperses physical force through microscopic spatial folds, reducing the effect of impacts. 122
- Contains a personal Mental Power imprint called the Paradox Anchor, allowing the field to loop between collapse and reconstruction briefly under heavy attack. 122
- Can activate automatically in response to sudden danger. 404
Hand of Myriad Phenomena
Gregor can manifest countless energy arms to conduct complex work simultaneously. 408
- Each arm can independently handle laboratory tools, reagents, containers, and experimental materials. 408
- Allows him to pack, sort, and manipulate a large laboratory with exceptional speed and precision. 408
- The technique was successfully imitated—and exceeded in scale—by Lynn after studying it. 408
Necromancy and Undead Research
Gregor is an accomplished necromantic researcher with extensive knowledge of undead construction, enhancement, and fusion. 41 44 401
- Could have refined Lynn's Death Knight in minutes, though he deliberately allowed Lynn to gain practical experience instead. 44
- Summoned and effortlessly killed a level-three Flesh Fiend to provide material for A-Bro's evolution. 71
- Possesses an undead space capable of storing powerful undead such as Megatron and Gale. 157
- Researched composite undead fusion by combining three differently attributed undead cores. 401
- Continues attempting to replicate the Death Blossom ritual, but lacks a substitute for the Starry Sky Behemoth Heart. 232 401
Myriad Phenomena Theory
Gregor advocates broad comprehension of the world's laws instead of narrow specialization. 53
- Has mastered more than one hundred common Apprentice-Level Sorceries and can acquire additional academy sorcery at little cost. 53
- Believes the Myriad Phenomena path requires understanding and integrating numerous laws before attaining greatness. 53
- Studies Lynn's three-thousand-law Rule Net to develop a more achievable simplified framework, potentially “Thousand Phenomena” or “Hundred Phenomena.” 567
- Has formed an incomplete Rule Net containing more than thirty Rule Chains. 612
Teleportation and Spatial Techniques
Gregor maintains private teleportation arrays in his laboratory and can rapidly deploy temporary arrays in the field. 93 122 124
- Secretly teleported Lynn to wilderness missions despite academy regulations. 93 117
- Used a private array to bring Lynn to the Rubble Graveyard anomaly. 122
- Constructed a one-way teleportation array with spatial crystals for a rapid return from the stone-puppet cavern. 124
Equipment / Items
- Dissipation Ring — A single-use ring given to Lynn before the Academy war. For three breaths, it weakens or deflects targeting spells, prophetic tracking, soul marks, and certain instant-death curses; it also carries a hidden directional soul distress rune. 144 157
- Satiety Mushroom — A shriveled fruit-like mushroom Gregor uses as a day's sustenance when working. 27
- Bone plates and bone pen — His usual media for recording formulas, research notes, and sorcery models. 25 43
- Private teleportation array — A concealed one-person array maintained in his laboratory. 93
Relationships
- Lynn — Mentor and later research collaborator. Gregor accepted Lynn despite expecting trouble, supplied him with knowledge and resources, repeatedly aided his survival, and ultimately saw Lynn validate the Myriad Phenomena path. 25 50 93 404 612
- Field — Apprentice. Field's persistent requests frequently irritate Gregor, but Gregor still directs him to assist Lynn with practical undead refinement. 43
- Cersei — Academy authority with a complicated past connection to Gregor; she confronts him over his Death Metamorphosis project and unspecified debts. 112 113
- An Li — Field's daughter, who calls Gregor “Grandpa.” Gregor is fond of her and accepts her gifts and company despite his usual focus on research. 429 452
Notable Quotes
“Do as you please... just don't cause me trouble.” 25
“This path... is too difficult. It simply... cannot be walked...” 53
“Don't die out there. Your brain... I still have great use for it.” 144
Trivia
- Gregor's normal untidiness is not due to poverty; he owns a dark-gold Wizard robe but rarely wears it. 414
- He considers ordinary food largely useless for Wizards and relies on Satiety Mushrooms while working. 27
- His laboratory is frequently treated as a refuge by Lynn because Gregor's presence makes it safer than most places in the Academy. 245
- Although he once feared that Lynn had abandoned the Myriad Phenomena path, Lynn's Stigma ultimately became the proof Gregor had sought for over a century. 401 404
