Nature and Function
A Stigma is an immense, non-physical imprint produced at the rule level of a demi-plane by powerful rules or wills. Such imprints can manifest across the sky as chains, soul-nets, flesh-and-blood vortices, or other abstract forms that reflect their bearers' power in reality 162.
For a Wizard, condensing a Stigma marks the transition from a mortal life form into a being that bears rules. The Stigma is branded deep within the soul and serves as both the source of the Wizard's power and the basis of their personal Stigmata Domain 377.
Stigmata Domains
Every Stigma Wizard possesses a personal demi-plane governed by their own rules. A domain is both the foundation and power source of its owner; it may be formed from elemental energy, spatial fragments, or a cultivated small plane 300.
- A Stigmata Domain can be projected into reality and used to contest or suppress other rule-based powers 394 396.
- Wizards trapped inside another Stigmata Domain generally cannot rely on teleportation to escape 399.
- Domains can contain complete world laws. Lynn's Myriad Phenomena Domain was able to suppress a veteran Frost Stigma by restricting its access to frost power 395 396.
Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Initial Stigma Stage (Initial Fourth Ring) | 381 382 | Reached by condensing a law into a Stigma, refining a demiplane into a domain, and fusing the two. Lynn's Myriad Phenomena Stigma formed from three thousand rule positions, with over a hundred tangible rule chains. |
| Stigmata Mid-Level (Fifth-Ring Mid-Level) | 550 551 | Lynn's Mental Power reached 100,000, while 617 physical rule chains formed a network integrated into his body. |
| True Spirit | 381 | The advancement beyond Stigma requires elevating rules into laws. |
Advancement into Stigma
| Step | Requirement | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Condense a Stigma | Choose and comprehend a law, then condense it into a Stigma branded into the soul. | Establishes the Wizard's rule-based power source. 377 |
| 2. Prepare a domain | Obtain or prepare a demi-plane, then refine it into a Stigmata Domain. | Creates the foundation that supports the Stigma. 377 |
| 3. Complete fusion | Fuse the Stigma with the Stigmata Domain. | Completes advancement into a Stigma Wizard. 377 381 |
Physical Transformation
The orthodox Stigma path normally replaces a Wizard's flesh with their chosen rule. For example, a Wizard advancing through a thunder rule would become a body of thunder elements rather than retain a human body 271.
Foreign-bloodline contamination makes this transformation especially dangerous: a heavily contaminated life form may suffer the collapse of both body and soul during rule-based reconstruction. Even gifted bloodline Wizards who succeed can lose their original bloodline body and must begin again on the orthodox path 142.
Lynn's advancement was an exception. The Myriad Phenomena Stigma allowed rules to coexist with his body rather than replace it, preserving both his flesh and the Starry Sky Behemoth bloodline within it 381.
Known Eternal Night Graveyard Stigmas
Nineteen Stigma imprints hang above the Eternal Night Graveyard. They are attributed to successive Withered Bone Spire Tower Masters, Vice Tower Masters, and peak Stigma Wizards; when dormant, they serve in a guardian capacity 162 165.
| Classification | Number | Known Stigmas |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Stigmas | 7 | Death, Soul, Undead, Flesh, Bones, Space, Time 165 |
| Secondary Stigmas | 12 | Earth, Negative Energy, Shadow, Annihilation, Curse, Plague, War, Contract, Fear, Toxin, Construction, Frost 165 |
Three of these secondary Stigmas—Fear, Shadow, and Frost—were activated to seal space around Lynn when Bone Spire suspected that he had been possessed by a native 393.
Observation and Analysis
Stigmata contain rule-level knowledge, including surface rule ripples, energy-flow patterns, and interactions between different rules. Even studying their outer layers can provide valuable insight into the nature of rules 196.
However, prolonged observation is dangerous.
- Formal Wizards can suffer information overload or rule contamination merely by observing a Stigma for too long 165.
- Forcible analysis of a Stigma risks attracting the imprint's will or provoking backlash 162 165.
- Lynn mitigated these risks through his limit-breaking soul, the Tranquil Soul-Soothing Tear, the Stellar Heart, and unusually high Mental Power 165.
Stigma Marks
A Stigma Mark is distinct from the Stigma itself. It is an exclusive emblem bound to a Stigma Wizard's identity and may be displayed on robes, badges, banners, and tokens 399.
- Marks commonly represent their bearer's Stigma rules and affiliated force 399.
- The mark can identify a Stigma Wizard to outside factions and reduce unnecessary conflict during missions 399 400.
- Lynn's mark represents the Myriad Phenomena Stigma: a Taiji-like design with dark-gold and gold-white fish enclosed in a circle, surrounded by eight branching golden lines 400 418.
Notable Stigma Bearers
- Lynn, Lord of Myriad Phenomena — Condensed the unprecedented Myriad Phenomena Stigma by unifying three thousand rules, then refined the Goblin World into his Stigmata Domain 381 383.
- Marfa, Soulweaver — Advanced after comprehending a complete soul rule contained in the Soul Rule Vessel and condensing her Soul Stigma 593.
- Frost Stigma's master — A white-haired Wizard whose Frost Stigma was drawn into Lynn's domain and suppressed by its rule net 394 395 396.
- Fear Stigma's master — A gaunt old Wizard who used fear-rule tentacles to attack and restrain Lynn during the academy's possession investigation 394 396.
- Shadow Stigma's master — A female Wizard who used an oily shadow projection and shadow chains alongside Fear and Frost 394 396.
