History
Goblins once rose to become the world's overlords through technology and engineering, beginning a Goblin Era that lasted ten thousand years. Their civilization later declined through corruption, stagnation, internal conflict, and resistance from other races; human ancestors ultimately overthrew them after developing the Knight's Path and Life Energy to counter Goblin technology 42.
The modern Goblin civilization developed on Gruul under the highly centralized Goblin Empire. Before its transformation into a Stigmata Domain, Gruul had an approximately twelve-billion population concentrated in six major cities and more than a thousand smaller settlements. Its industrial growth exhausted resources and caused severe pollution, leaving much of the land barren and forcing some residents underground 297 298.
The Empire's first spaceflight mission, the Explorer, marked its first departure from the atmosphere. Although the craft could not break through the world's barrier, its journey demonstrated the goblins' ambition to enter the wider cosmos 296 307. Their civilization was soon threatened by a meteor predicted to strike Gruul within five years and two months—an impact their existing technology could not prevent 298 304.
Lynn exploited this crisis by appearing as the “Supreme God Enzoth.” His religion spread rapidly, though technological self-rescue groups continued to insist that technology was the goblins' path to survival 306 309. Following Lynn's advancement, Goblin World was refined into his Stigmata Domain; Myriad Phenomena became the world's new will, while the goblins' faith was converted into world power 380 383.
Lynn subsequently introduced supernatural cultivation to the world, allowing goblins to pursue knight, warrior, mage, and priest paths alongside their technological development 385. After Goblin World fused with the Source Realm, the goblins defended their territory against invading orcs, established trade with other races, and began spreading their technology and faith beyond their original world 497 507 508.
Appearance
Goblins are consistently described as small, green-skinned humanoids. Individually, most are physically weak; many ordinary goblins would lose to even a basic skeleton soldier without technological support 297.
- Most goblins rely on intelligence, machinery, and coordinated firepower rather than personal combat ability 296 319.
- Their strongest early genetic warriors were only comparable to beginner first-circle beings 296.
- Goblins are notably fertile; before later world fusions, Goblin World alone contained roughly ten billion goblins 384.
- Industrial and military personnel commonly wear protective suits, combat uniforms, tactical vests, or standardized robes marked with the Empire's gear-and-wheat emblem and the Supreme God's Court Stigma Mark 433 506 508.
Wild Goblins
Wild goblins are isolated or impoverished goblin populations that developed separately from the Goblin Empire.
- The wild goblins of the Sea of Death have grayish-green, thick skin adapted to pollution; short fingers and long toes for climbing reefs; and small vertical pupils suited to darkness 387.
- Source Realm wild goblins possess no cities, writing, or formal civilization and survive in wilderness settlements rejected by other races 490.
- Goblin thaumaturges from Gruul sought to relocate and assist their wild kin after discovering them in the Source Realm 508.
Society and Government
| Institution / Group | Role |
|---|---|
| Goblin Empire | The original unified government of Gruul, overseeing its industry, military, research programs, and space exploration 297 298 |
| Goblin Emperor | Secular head of the Empire. The Emperor accelerated spacecraft and genetic-warrior projects in response to Gruul's impending destruction 297 300 |
| Supreme God's Church Association | The theocratic organization established around Enzoth. Within two years of its spread, Archbishop Augustus had become Goblin World's effective ruler while the emperor retained little authority 378 |
| Supreme God's Court | The religious institution that distributes cultivation methods, operates temples, and sends missionaries into other worlds 385 508 |
| Order of the Temple Knights | A thousand-strong religious military force loyal to the Supreme God rather than the Emperor 476 |
| Goblin Self-Rescue Society | A technology-focused movement that continued researching a scientific escape from the meteor crisis rather than relying on divine salvation 309 |
Daily Life
Goblins generally work eight-hour days in factories, fields, and laboratories. Their leisure activities include television programs, dramas, variety shows, cartoons, and a broad diet that includes bread, noodles, rice, meat dishes, grilled fish, cakes, cookies, and ice cream 433.
Technology
| Field | Capabilities |
|---|---|
| Industry and infrastructure | Gruul developed concrete roads, electric streetlights, trains, steam-powered vehicles, combustion- or electric-powered vehicles, radio receivers, mechanical clocks, and television-like displays 297 |
| Energy and science | Before supernatural evolution, Goblin World possessed nuclear energy, spaceflight, and genetic engineering at a technological level comparable to the mid-to-late twentieth century 298 |
| Genetic enhancement | The third generation of genetic warriors possessed physical capabilities five times those of ordinary goblins and lifespans of up to two hundred years 297 |
| Spacecraft | The Explorer used a nuclear-fusion engine, a full-metal hull, and advanced detection equipment. Later expedition vessels used magic-crystal fuel stabilized by runes 296 475 |
| Magic-powered transport | Goblin engineers developed magic-powered engines that burn Magic Stones; standard freight vehicles can carry twenty tons 613 |
| Research integration | Modern technology districts combine blast furnaces and railways with mage towers, elemental pools, and materials from other worlds 612 |
Military Technology
- Mana-powered mechs — Eight-meter alloy war machines equipped with laser cannons, missile launchers, and chest-mounted shield generators 319.
- Mana-powered tanks — Heavily armored vehicles with main cannons approaching peak first-ring power, though their slow movement limits them against agile supernatural opponents 319.
- Magic crystal weapons — Individual soldiers can carry Magic Crystal Pistols and High-Frequency Vibration Blades during exploration missions 605.
- Air and naval forces — The Goblin military deploys airships with mana cannons, as well as cruisers, destroyers, and battleships 497.
- Firepower doctrine — Goblins do not emphasize close-combat systems; their principal advantage is concentrated long-range firepower and mass deployment of machines 319.
- Limitations — Mechs and tanks are effective against low-level targets but were initially too slow and mechanically delayed to reliably challenge Wizards of comparable rank 319.
Supernatural Development
The Bronze Book provided by the Supreme God's Court introduced four complete cultivation paths to Goblin World:
- Knights
- Warriors
- Mages
- Priests 385
The Temple Knights are the most prominent product of this system. They can endure damage, fight, and recover, combining aspects of warriors, knights, mages, and priests. Despite their versatility, their direct destructive power remains below mana-powered mechs and tanks 475.
During public displays, Temple Knights use Holy Light's Blessing to form a golden pillar of light and manifest a phantom of Enzoth. The falling light warms and heals nearby goblins, reinforcing the population's religious devotion 476.
Exploration and Expansion
Goblins regard exploration as a defining achievement of their civilization. The Explorer crew treated their first atmospheric departure as a historic step for their race and carefully recorded star charts, engine data, and collected samples 296.
“This is the goblin race's first time flying out of the atmosphere! Our first time entering the universe! We're pioneers! Heroes!” 296
Later expeditions were released to explore worlds beyond Goblin World on Lynn's behalf. Crews follow a cautious procedure: scan the environment, establish defenses, collect samples, maintain communications, and prioritize survival over exploration 604 605 606.
On one primitive world, goblin explorers initially retreated from overwhelming prehistoric beasts, then established an alloy-plated temporary camp protected by energy shields. They successfully hunted and analyzed a Savage Beast, confirming it was safe to eat after months of surviving on compressed rations 605 606 607.
Interworld Relations
- Source Realm races — Humans, beastmen, and dwarves initially dismissed goblins as weak “green-skinned rats,” assuming their technological civilization could be easily conquered 494.
- Orc tribes — The Goblin military repelled a massive orc invasion through artillery, aircraft, mechs, tanks, and prepared defenses at a strategic pass 497 498 499.
- Humans, elves, and dwarves — Following the conflict, goblin merchants established barter trade, exchanging industrial products such as pocket watches, lighters, glassware, compasses, seeds, medicine, and steam-engine models 507.
- Wild goblins — Goblin missionaries recognized wild Source Realm goblins as kin and offered aid, relocation, and access to the Supreme God's cultivation system 508.
- Other fused worlds — Goblin World later incorporated humans, orcs, elves, dwarves, and other races; its total population exceeded sixteen billion 551.
