Background / History

Tang San studied at Notting Academy alongside Xiao Wu. Upon returning to the work-study dormitory, he found that Xiao Wu had become distant and that her bed had been moved away from his. Ma Hongjun's public affection toward Xiao Wu provoked Tang San's anger and jealousy. 23 24

He attempted to discourage Xiao Wu's relationship with Ma Hongjun under the guise of academy rules and concern for her cultivation. Xiao Wu rejected his interference, telling him that her affairs were none of his business. 26 27 Tang San subsequently fought Ma Hongjun, but his Blue Silver Grass was badly countered by Phoenix fire. He was defeated and injured after his Entanglement was burned away. 28

After reporting his defeat to his teacher, Yu Xiaogang, Tang San admitted that Ma Hongjun's physical strength, speed, explosive power, and ability to anticipate his movements had overwhelmed him. Yu Xiaogang encouraged Tang San to cultivate harder and use Ma Hongjun as motivation. 31 32

Tang San challenged Ma Hongjun a second time, using his Clear Sky Hammer and hidden weapons. Even after revealing his twin Martial Souls, he was defeated again; Ma Hongjun withstood the Clear Sky Hammer and deflected Tang San's steel needles. 36 38 Tang San nevertheless vowed to keep challenging him. 39

Five years later, Tang San arrived at Shrek Academy at the peak of level 29, intending to surpass Ma Hongjun, reclaim his dignity, and prove Yu Xiaogang's teachings correct. He reunited with Xiao Wu, who now openly favored Ma Hongjun and dismissed Tang San as inferior to them both. 139 140

During Shrek's entrance assessment, Tang San joined Xiao Wu, Zhu Zhuqing, and Ning Rongrong against Zhao Wuji. His hidden weapons could not penetrate Zhao Wuji's defenses, and he was the first of the group eliminated. 143 146 He then wagered Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track against one of Ma Hongjun's soul bones, but surrendered after witnessing Ma Hongjun's overwhelming Soul Power and soul-ring configuration. The realization pushed him through to level 30. 147 149

Tang San later left Shrek Academy with Yu Xiaogang after his teacher judged the academy unsuitable for him; Dai Mubai departed with them. 176 The pair subsequently entered Heaven Dou Royal Academy, where Tang San became part of the Royal Team and continued competing in the Great Soul Arena. 215

Appearance

At approximately six years old, Tang San had an ordinary face. By the time he arrived at Shrek Academy years later, he wore simple blue clothing. 23 139

  • Simple blue attire at Shrek Academy's entrance assessments. 139
  • His eyes can flash purple when using Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track under pressure. 146

Personality

Tang San is proud, persistent, and highly sensitive to humiliation. His defeats by Ma Hongjun, as well as Xiao Wu's rejection of his interference, intensify his fixation on becoming stronger and surpassing his rival. 31 35 140

His concern for Xiao Wu is genuine, but he repeatedly oversteps her boundaries by trying to control her relationship with Ma Hongjun. He frames these actions as protection, while Xiao Wu views them as unwelcome meddling. 26 27

Despite his pride, Tang San can recognize defeat. When confronted with Ma Hongjun's strength at Shrek, he surrendered rather than fall into the mental trap intended to break his will, then recommitted himself to cultivation. 149 160

Tang San is deeply loyal to Yu Xiaogang. After overhearing Flender and Liu Erlong urge his teacher to sever ties with him, he was moved by Yu Xiaogang's refusal and resolved to become strong enough to uncover the truth surrounding Tang Hao. 222

Abilities & Skills

Blue Silver Grass Martial Soul

Tang San's primary Martial Soul is Blue Silver Grass. At level 29, it has two yellow soul rings and is used for battlefield control. 143

  • First Soul Skill — Blue Silver Entanglement / Entangle: Extends Blue Silver Grass to bind opponents. 28 37
  • Second Soul Skill — Parasite: Listed as his second Blue Silver Grass skill. 143
  • Limitation: As a plant-type Martial Soul, Blue Silver Grass is vulnerable to fire and was burned apart by Ma Hongjun's Phoenix Fire Line. 28

Clear Sky Hammer

Tang San's second Martial Soul is the Clear Sky Hammer, making him a twin-Martial-Soul wielder. The hammer is associated with the Clear Sky Sect and is regarded as an exceptionally powerful weapon-type Martial Soul. 38 148

  • Used as a concealed trump card during his second duel with Ma Hongjun. 37 38
  • Its attack was powerful enough to force Ma Hongjun back several steps in a direct clash. 38
  • Tang San learns at Shrek that its possession may connect him to the Clear Sky Sect and his father's origins. 148

Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track

A movement technique Tang San practiced from childhood and considers essential to his fighting style. 25 147

  • Enables rapid evasive movement and sudden repositioning. 27 28
  • Used to evade attacks and maneuver around stronger opponents. 146
  • Its effectiveness was restricted by Zhao Wuji's Gravity Enhancement. 146
  • Tang San surrendered its manual to Ma Hongjun after losing their wager; Ma Hongjun burned it without reading it. 149

Tang Sect Techniques

Tang San possesses martial techniques inherited from the Tang Sect, though his practical combat experience initially lagged behind his technical knowledge. 37

  • Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon: Produces a pulling force that can redirect an opponent's attack. 27
  • Uses evasive footwork and technique-based fighting to compensate for weaker physical power. 27 37
  • His lack of real combat guidance and experience leaves him vulnerable to opponents who can read his patterns. 37

Hidden Weapons

Tang San crafts and uses concealed projectiles as a major trump card. 38

  • Fires steel needles in volleys to block an opponent's avenues of advance and retreat. 38
  • Has prepared the Dragon Beard Needle, which he believes can pierce Soul Power defenses. 145 146
  • His refined-steel hidden weapons failed to penetrate Zhao Wuji's defenses. 146
  • Ma Hongjun's enhanced senses and defense allowed him to evade or deflect Tang San's needles. 38

External Soul Bone

By the time he joins Heaven Dou Royal Academy, Tang San possesses an External Soul Bone. 215
