Background

Tsunade is Hashirama Senju's granddaughter and was associated with Konoha as one of the Konoha Sannin alongside Jiraiya and Orochimaru. During the conflict in the Land of Rain, she encountered Gemini Fox and cautiously took an interest in his unusual goods and powers. She later remained behind to guide him into the Land of Fire. 237 241 244

When Hiruzen Sarutobi, Jiraiya, Orochimaru, and a Konoha force confronted Gemini, Tsunade was the only Sannin still able to stand due to the Strength of a Hundred Seal. Gemini nevertheless defeated her, breaking her arm and knee before having Rum expel the group from the property. 248

After her brother Nawaki's death, Tsunade sought Gemini's help to resurrect him. Gemini initially demanded fifty billion ryo, then offered resurrection in exchange for her service. Though tempted by the possibility of using Nagato's Rinnegan for the resurrection, Tsunade refused to sacrifice Nagato and agreed to become Gemini's maid; the term rose from five years to seven during their negotiation.
