History
Separation of Weng Shao
Nineteen years before the reunion, Weng Hanyu and Gu Yifei's infant son, Weng Chengye, disappeared while being taken out by his nanny. The nanny vanished as well, and the Third Branch spent the following nineteen years searching for him. 82
The later investigation established that maid Lan Huifang had planned the abduction with Deng Aniu. Although Lan Huizhi warned Liao Fangzhi, Weng Hanlin and Liao Fangzhi secretly enabled the kidnapping by diverting household security. After the kidnappers reached Malaysia, a Malaysian Chinese man took the child and arranged with the Second Branch to send him to the mainland in exchange for assistance with his land dispute. 98
Weng Yingjie eventually obtained the abducted child from traffickers and raised him as Weng Shao. Despite treating him as his biological son in public, the Jinghai household neglected him, left him to care for the paralyzed Weng Yingxiong, and resisted paying for his education. 2 58
Conflict with the Jinghai Weng Family
Weng Shao's demand for recognition and educational support exposed the Jinghai family's treatment of him. Weng Yingjie, Zhou Shujing, Weng Zhen, and Weng Sui repeatedly attempted to contain the scandal through public reconciliation, legal pressure, and attacks on his reputation. 10 36 43
With Pei Xingze's backing, Weng Shao used defamation litigation, media exposure, and stock-market operations to weaken Weng Group. Pei Group first entered its board with a 19.99% stake; Weng Shao, holding 4.99%, received a board seat and became Pei Group's deputy director of investment. 55
Weng Shao then pressured Weng Yingjie into pledging shares held under Zhou Shujing's and his sons' names. Pei Group acquired the pledged 10%, raising its holding to 30% and becoming Weng Group's largest shareholder, while the Jinghai household's internal alliance collapsed. 72
After Weng Shao's biological identity became public, he and Pei Group removed Weng Yingjie from Weng Group's board for dereliction of duty. The former household fractured further: Zhou Shujing turned against Weng Yingjie, Weng Zhen resented him, and Weng Sui learned that he was born from Zhou Shujing's affair with Weng Yingjie's brother. 79 81
Return to the Hong Kong Weng Family
Gu Yifei and Weng Hanyu confirmed Weng Shao as their missing son and reunited with him in Jinghai. Weng Shao retained the name he had used for two lifetimes rather than resuming the name Weng Chengye. 81 83
At a reunion banquet, Weng Hanyu and Gu Yifei publicly recognized Weng Shao as the Third Branch's only son and transferred their combined 62% holding in Han Yi Group to him. He became the group's largest shareholder and sole heir. 83
The return placed Weng Shao at the center of the Hong Kong family's succession concerns. Some relatives welcomed him and offered luxury homes, cars, and a game company, while others feared that his financial ability and alliance with the Pei family would upset the established balance between branches. 84 86
Exposure of the Kidnapping Conspiracy
The truth behind Weng Shao's disappearance emerged after Zhou Shujing supplied old account books following her divorce from Weng Yingjie. The investigation linked Liao Fangzhi's natal family, the Second Branch, and the Malaysian intermediary who had arranged the infant's transfer. 97 99
Weng Hanlin and Liao Fangzhi were exposed as collaborators in the kidnapping scheme. The Liao family's role in concealing and facilitating the crime led to its downfall; Liao Fangzhi and Weng Hanlin were imprisoned, while Liao Yunsheng was sent to a sanatorium by his own children. 98 99 102
