Background / History
Su Shiyuan rose from poverty to establish Su Corporation. The Bai family supported his early entrepreneurship by providing connections, helping assemble the original team, and introducing executives and business partners who remained tied to the company years later. 128 132
He married Bai Yueyin, who had chosen him despite her family's objections. Bai Yueyin died not long after giving birth to their son, Su Zhuo. Su Shiyuan continued treating the Bais as his proper in-laws, both out of attachment to Bai Yueyin and because of the families' long business alliance. 52 128
After marrying Lu Manzhen, Su Shiyuan brought her son Huo Jiu into the Su household following the death of Huo Jiu's biological father. Huo Jiu became his stepson and remained under Su Shiyuan and Lu Manzhen's guardianship. 26 85
Personality
Su Shiyuan is a proud, authoritative entrepreneur who values control, family reputation, and the authority granted by his position. He is capable of recognizing when the Bai family oversteps into Su affairs, particularly when they intervene in household matters without his consent. 52
His defining weakness is his single-minded devotion to Su Zhuo. Although he can be patient and outwardly reasonable, Su Zhuo's illness repeatedly drives him to coercive and unethical decisions, including considering forcing Huo Jiu onto an operating table and later treating his younger child primarily as a potential donor. 75 197 213
He also judges people through status and usefulness. He initially idealizes Lu Manzhen as gentle and virtuous, but becomes dissatisfied when she cannot control Huo Jiu or meet his expectations as a wife and household manager. 59 128 His view of Lu Manzhen deteriorates into open contempt after their previous life, though he ultimately compromises when she threatens to expose Su Corporation's secrets. 217

Story Role / Major Arcs
Conflict over Huo Jiu's Bone Marrow
Su Shiyuan spends heavily on wild ginseng to restore Huo Jiu's health, then becomes guarded when Huo Jiu demands one hundred million yuan and a signed gift contract for the transplant. 8 He later abandons gentler methods, fixes the operation date, and contemplates physically forcing Huo Jiu to donate marrow because Su Zhuo is his only son. 46 75
When Huo Jiu refuses the procedure, Su Shiyuan and Lu Manzhen invoke their guardianship to accuse Diwu Ling of abducting him. Public opinion instead views Su Shiyuan as a stepfather attempting to force a minor into becoming an “organ bank” for his son. 85
After Huo Jiu saves Su Zhuo, Su Shiyuan attempts to repay and reclaim him through apartments, but Huo Jiu refuses the gifts. Su Shiyuan later advises Lu Manzhen to manipulate Huo Jiu through displays of vulnerability and maternal dependence. 98 99 141
Su Garden and Corporate Decline
Su Shiyuan backs Su Zhuo's ambition by assigning him the Su Garden project, worth over one billion yuan, despite his son's inexperience and strong shareholder opposition. 153 154 The decision damages confidence in Su Corporation and becomes a major cause of his later loss of support. 155 181

White Corporation, Divorce, and Family Collapse
After his removal from Su Corporation, Su Shiyuan becomes chairman of White Corporation with the support of Lu Manzhen and Old Master Bai. His position is soon challenged when Bai family branches learn he may again target Huo Jiu to obtain treatment for Su Zhuo. 193 194
Bai Yueling's pregnancy exposes the conflict between Su Shiyuan's stated affection and his obsession with Su Zhuo's recovery. He agrees to divorce Lu Manzhen, but only after she secures a major share of his assets. 195 196 198 He pressures Bai Yueling to allow their child's cord blood to be used for Su Zhuo and admits he intended the pregnancy to provide another possible source of treatment. 197
