Background

Yuanshi was teaching the Twelve Golden Immortals on Kunlun Mountain when he sensed the Purple Firmament Divine Thunder gathering over the Eastern Sea. He attempted to calculate its cause, but the Heavenly Secrets remained inaccessible even to him. 3

As one of the Three Pure Ones, Yuanshi shares a common origin with Taiqing and Tongtian. However, disagreements between the Expounding Sect and the Interception Sect led to repeated disputes with Tongtian; Tongtian ultimately departed Kunlun Mountain and established a new Dao field in the Eastern Sea. 37

Yuanshi places strong importance on lineage, propriety, and innate endowment. He selected the Expounding Sect's Twelve Golden Immortals carefully, yet repeatedly compares them unfavorably to Zhao Gongming's exceptional talent and accomplishments. 105 178

Expounding–Interception Sect Rivalry

When the Interception Sect's Fortune stabilizes after Zhao Gongming's rise, Yuanshi leads the Twelve Golden Immortals to Golden Turtle Island to investigate. His confrontation with Tongtian develops into a proposed Dao debate among the Profound Sect's factions. 36 37

Mount Buzhou Incident

During the Witch–Demon conflict, Yuanshi proposes that both races retire into seclusion. Zhao Gongming counters him by exposing the Three Pure Ones' own division, leaving Yuanshi unable to press his argument. 123

The Heavenly Dao then offers Yuanshi control over Saint Fruit Positions if he destroys Mount Buzhou. Though he initially refuses out of loyalty to Pangu and fear of karmic backlash, he accepts the offer and rams the Heavenly Pillar. 124

The four Heavenly Pillars and Pangu's Will stabilize Mount Buzhou. Yuanshi's second attempt fails completely, causing his Saint body to explode and forcing his resurrection through the Heavenly Dao. 125

Conflict over the Human Sovereigns

Yuanshi claims the teacher fates of the Earthly and Human Sovereigns after the Human Race becomes Heaven and Earth's protagonist. Zhao Gongming instead proclaims himself teacher of all Human Sovereigns and receives the corresponding Heavenly Dao Merit. 129

Yuanshi later confronts Zhao Gongming over Fuxi and the Human Race. He attacks with the Three Treasures Jade Ruyi, but Zhao counters with a Golden Brick and a punch that sends the Saint flying. 132 133

First Battle with Zhao Gongming

During the Investiture of the Gods Cataclysm, Yuanshi personally attacks Zhao Gongming after confronting Interception Sect disciples. The Three Treasures Jade Ruyi and Pangu Banner fail to breach Zhao's Thirty-Six Heavens Worlds and Chaos Green Lotus Cauldron defenses. 142 143

Driven by humiliation and envy, Yuanshi manifests the Jade Void Primordial Heavenly King Formation. Zhao Gongming answers with Pangu True Form, Creation-Heaven Strike, and the Ten-Thousandfold Dao-Storing Strike, severely injuring Yuanshi and ultimately slaying him. 144 146

Golden Turtle Island Confrontation

Yuanshi later intervenes when the Three Skies battle Guangchengzi. He immobilizes the Golden Flood Dragon Scissors, breaks through the Nine-Curved Yellow River Formation, and prepares to kill Qiong Xiao with a jade hammer. 162

Zhao Gongming returns to protect his sisters and challenges Yuanshi again. Yuanshi deploys the Jade Void Primordial Heavenly King Formation, but Zhao defeats its true body and later punches Yuanshi in the face despite Yuanshi and Taiqing's joint pressure. 163 165

Investiture List Schemes

After Zhao Gongming attains the Human Dao Ancestor Fruit Position, Yuanshi is forced to place five of his own personal disciples on the Investiture List. He then schemes to preserve the remaining Jade Void Golden Immortals by having Interception Sect disciples listed through their Primordial Spirits instead. 185

Tongtian discovers Yuanshi's use of the Three Corpses to kill Interception Sect disciples and establishes the Execution Immortal Sword Formation to force a final settlement. The formation later seals Kunlun Mountain, trapping Yuanshi and the Jade Void Golden Immortals. 185 186
