History

Founding and Uchiha marginalization

Konoha was founded jointly by the Uchiha and Senju clans after the Warring States era, ending the period of continual conflict between major clans. The Uchiha were regarded as founding companions of the village. 67 73

Over time, Konoha's higher-ups isolated the Uchiha Clan. The clan was relocated to the village outskirts, placed under watchtower surveillance, and portrayed as a potential rebel force; normal clan gatherings were treated as evidence of conspiracy. 13

The resulting persecution culminated in the planned extermination of the Uchiha Clan. Hiruzen Sarutobi later admitted that he knew of Danzō's order to kill Uchiha children but did not intervene. 1 31

First destruction

In retaliation for the massacre, Uchiha Shadian unsealed and controlled the Nine-Tails against Konoha. The Nine-Tails destroyed Hokage Rock and its statues with a Tailed Beast Bomb. 7 9

Shadian subsequently opened the Gate of the Underworld beneath the Uchiha Compound. The expanding chasm devoured buildings, civilians, and much of the village; Konoha collapsed into ruins before Jiraiya could intervene. 13 14 16 19

The destruction continued beyond the village itself. Shadian used Meido Zangetsuha to drag Konoha's headquarters and attacking shinobi into the Underworld, then devastated the surviving army with Sage-enhanced Wood Release and poisonous pollen. 23 36 37

Time reversal and second destruction

Shadian used his Sharingan to reverse time, restoring pre-destruction Konoha and reviving those who had died. Its inhabitants retained memories of the destruction despite the restored reality. 47

The restored village did not avert conflict. Uchiha survivors, empowered by memories of the massacre, rose against Konoha. They neutralized the watchtowers surrounding their compound and began a coordinated attack on the village. 49 52

Madara Uchiha then attacked Konoha directly, destroying the Hokage Building and summoning two colossal meteorites through Tengai Shinsei. The second destruction left Konoha shattered across dozens of miles. 56 57 59

Reconstruction and later role

After the second destruction, Hashirama Senju's group planned to gather Konoha's dispersed shinobi and rebuild the village. 60

Hashirama later punished Hiruzen Sarutobi, Danzō, Koharu, Homura, and Tobirama Senju for their roles in the anti-Uchiha policies and massacre. 73 79

By the Fourth Great Ninja War, Konoha had recovered sufficiently for the Four Great Nations to seek Hashirama's aid there. Hashirama agreed to commit Konoha to the war against Madara and Izuna Uchiha. 102

Landmarks and infrastructure

• Hokage Rock — Monument bearing the statues of Konoha's previous Hokage; destroyed by the Nine-Tails during the first attack and present again after time reversal. 9 47
• Uchiha Compound — Located at Konoha's outer edge and surrounded by surveillance watchtowers before the massacre. It became the center of the first Underworld chasm. 13 15
• Konoha Headquarters / Hokage Building — The headquarters was dragged into the Underworld during the first destruction; the Hokage Building was later destroyed by Madara's Susanoo. 23 56

• The village's treatment of Naruto Uzumaki became a major symbol of Konoha's failure: despite being Minato Namikaze's son, he was ostracized by villagers who believed him to be the Nine-Tails. 6 31 73
• Konoha declared Uchiha Shadian its only rogue ninja rated beyond S-rank and placed a bounty of ten billion ryō on him after the first destruction. 42
