Background / History
Hashirama and Madara Uchiha were close friends in their youth, sharing a dream of ending the clans' endless warfare. As heirs to the rival Senju and Uchiha clans, they eventually became enemies; Izuna Uchiha's injury and presumed death at Tobirama's hands intensified the conflict. After catastrophic losses, Hashirama persuaded Madara to make peace, and the two founded Konoha together. Madara chose the village's name, while Hashirama established the title of Hokage/Naruto. 67 70 73
Hashirama intended Konoha to unite its founding clans. He states that he wished to recommend Madara as First Hokage and later as Second Hokage, but Tobirama's opposition and Madara's departure prevented it. Hashirama later recognizes that he failed to stop Tobirama's hostility toward the Uchiha, allowing those beliefs to influence later Konoha leadership. 73
Uchiha Shadian revives Hashirama after Madara devastates Konoha and cripples Tobirama. Hashirama immediately seeks an explanation from Madara and resolves to stop further harm to Konoha. 58 59 60
Personality
Hashirama is devoted to Konoha's people and to the ideal of peace. He once begged other village leaders to sign peace agreements, and he continues to seek reconciliation even after Madara destroys Konoha. 69 75
He is notably merciful toward Madara, believing that killing him would not resolve the cycle of resurrection and hatred. This mercy is paired with pragmatism: he proposes rebuilding Konoha, reallocating border forces, and personally opposing threats to the village. 60 69 71
After witnessing Naruto Uzumaki's childhood and the Uchiha Clan's persecution through Shadian's illusion, Hashirama becomes severe toward Konoha's leadership. He accepts responsibility for failing to correct Tobirama's prejudice and agrees to punish those he considers the products of that ideology. 69 73 79

Wood Release
Hashirama's signature kekkei genkai allows him to generate and manipulate immense wooden structures, forests, vines, and constructs.
- Uses Wood Release: Deep Forest Emergence to launch expansive vine attacks. 68
- Creates a Wood Dragon capable of binding Madara's Susanoo. 68
- Forms colossal Wood Humans larger than Madara's Complete Body Susanoo. 68 115
- Uses Wood Release: Double Barrier Technique to add arms to a wooden statue and catch Madara's swords. 69
- Restores a severed Wood Human with Wood Release: Endless Regrowth. 115
- Produces autonomous Wood Clones for combat and execution duties. 77 79
Sage Mode
Hashirama can enter Perfect Sage Mode instantly, substantially enhancing his chakra, physical power, perception, and Wood Release. 68 74

Six Paths Sage Mode and Yin–Yang Release
Hashirama later gains Six Paths Sage Mode, appearing in a golden aura with six Truth-Seeking Orbs. 116

- Plans to seal Madara in an “endless void” to stop him from endangering the world. 115
Combat Prowess
Hashirama possesses exceptional chakra reserves and endurance. Against Rinnegan Madara, their battle becomes a contest of attrition that Hashirama wins because he retains chakra after Madara is exhausted. 69 71
- Defeats Madara after a day-and-night battle. 69
- His Sage Mode-enhanced grip crushes Danzō's arm bones in a single grab. 74
- Outmaneuvers Danzō's repeated Izanagi revivals by tracking his diminishing chakra. 77
