Background / History

Tsunade left Konoha after Nawaki's death and other personal losses, traveling with her attendant Shizune. Despite the pain associated with the village, Konoha's mass emergency signals compel her to return at full speed when it comes under attack. 27

Before leaving the village, she trained Uchiha Shadian in medical ninjutsu. Their teacher–student relationship became emotionally complicated after they shared physical intimacy; Tsunade later realizes that she had fallen in love with him, only for their relationship to fracture amid his pursuit of other women and her departure from Konoha. 33

During Shadian's assault on Konoha, he resurrects Nawaki as repayment for Tsunade's instruction. His act leaves her torn between gratitude toward him, her unresolved feelings, and her duty to protect the village. 34 35
