Background / History

Mu Jin is the president of Devon Corporation and one of Rustboro Academy's principal financial backers. Devon sponsorship provides some commoner students with Pokémon such as Geodude, Sandshrew, and Diglett. 20

Before Roy enrolled at Rustboro Academy, an elder from Mt. Pyre asked Mu Jin to arrange the boy's admission. Mu Jin accepted the request without much thought, though he later questioned why the secretive Mt. Pyre family had sought outside help. 22

He visited Rustboro Academy with his son Steven and watched Roy battle. Mu Jin initially struggled to reconcile Roy's polite, sunny appearance with his highly underhanded Ghost-type battle tactics. 20 22 33 45

Mu Jin served as a judge during the Rookie Cup alongside Professor Oak and Agatha. He awarded Roy and Erika scores of ten and seven after Agatha prompted him to stop dwelling on Roy's uncharacteristically benevolent contest performance. 31 33

Personality

Mu Jin is observant but easily thrown off by Roy's contradictory behavior. He views Roy's battle methods as “disgusting,” yet recognizes the same tactics when Litwick uses Smog deceptively during the Rookie Cup. 22 45

He is affectionate and proud toward Steven, repeatedly praising his son—even while Steven is left to manage Devon Corporation's affairs during Mu Jin's outings. 103

Mu Jin is protective of Steven but confident in his safety. He permits Steven to accompany Roy to Meteor Village, citing his own familiarity with the Meteor People and Roy's protection by Agatha's Gengar. 103

At Devon Tower, Mu Jin meets Roy and learns that Agatha has accepted him as a disciple. He allows Steven to travel with Roy to Meteor Village, despite the location's forbidden and mysterious reputation. 103
