| One-Tomoe Sharingan | 10 | Awakens the Sharingan amid the shock of discovering the massacre, being attacked by grieving clansmen, and feeling abandoned by those close to him; later identified as a One-Tomoe Sharingan 10 39 |
Background / History
Sasuke was practicing shuriken techniques behind the Ninja Academy when an ANBU used Genjutsu to incapacitate him. After waking late that night, he returned to the Uchiha compound and found bloodstained streets and rows of corpses. The surviving clan members, convinced that Fugaku and Itachi had betrayed them, directed their grief and anger at Sasuke; Mikoto was unable to fully shield him. The emotional shock and physical pain caused Sasuke to awaken his Sharingan. 10
Shien later informed Sasuke and Mikoto that they had to leave the clan grounds for their safety and surrender their funds as compensation to the bereaved clan. When Sasuke demanded to know why Itachi had killed the clan members, Shien refused to explain and harshly forced him to confront the consequences associated with his family. 18
To reduce Konoha's suspicion of the remaining Uchiha, Sasuke and Mikoto were moved from the clan grounds and placed under the Hokage's care. Sasuke did not want to leave his childhood home, but the resentment of the clan survivors made remaining there untenable. 23
At the Ninja Academy, Sasuke became isolated under the attention and pity of his classmates. He ignored Naruto's attempts at friendship and was repeatedly targeted by grieving Uchiha children, including Shiren. Naruto intervened during one assault and was beaten alongside him; afterward, the two returned home together and discovered that they were neighbors. 25 26
After Shisui offered to teach him self-defense, Sasuke began receiving guidance on observation, situational assessment, disengagement, and escape. The Third Hokage eventually allowed Shisui to teach him once each week. 27 39 40
Personality
Sasuke is grieving, guarded, and deeply attached to his family, particularly Itachi. Even after the clan's accusations, he struggles to accept that his brother was responsible and reacts strongly when others attack Itachi's name. 18 25
His pride initially makes him reluctant to seek help or avoid confrontation, but repeated bullying erodes that certainty. Under Shisui's instruction, he begins learning that self-preservation, calm observation, and strategic retreat are not cowardice. 39 40
Sasuke also possesses a strong desire to protect Mikoto. His frustration over being unable to defend either himself or his mother motivates him to accept training. 27
