The entire lower deck was filled with a faint black mist. It was cold and dry, and corpses stored here showed no signs of decay. Yang Mu arranged the corpse in his hands.
The crew sat on the deck with bottles of rum, watching the Undead slowly devour the two large ships. Though they had seen it many times, the sight still felt miraculous.
"Hey, did you see those female slaves earlier? I bet that merchant ship belonged to some big shot. Every one of those women was prettier than the last, and their figures were incredible."
"Bick, don't do anything stupid. If you want women, wait until we return to port and find some yourself. Even if you fancy one of the female slaves, buy her with your own money. The Captain doesn't like us doing that sort of thing on the ship."
"I know. Don't worry, Black Luo, I'm not that stupid. They're just women. How could they be more attractive than power?"
The crew drank rum mouthful by mouthful and chatted idly. Only after the Undead stopped devouring the ships in satisfaction did they raise the sails and prepare to return to Pirate Island.
For some reason, the Captain preferred Pirate Island to the more famous Shipwreck Island. Compared with Pirate Island, Shipwreck Island was larger and offered far more forms of entertainment.
But since the Captain did not like it, they could only go to Pirate Island.
Fortunately, Barrel Daddy of Pirate Island had already established a complete network for selling stolen goods, so there was no need to worry about their plundered cargo being impossible to convert into Gold Shields.
As for what Yang Mu was doing on the middle deck, he was naturally studying Abel's corpse. In three months, Yang Mu had already become a High-Level Apprentice, and his spiritual power had reached 6.7.
He had also inscribed his second spell model: Elemental Affinity. Only he would use a precious spell-model slot to inscribe a spell that increased elemental affinity.
In truth, Yang Mu had no choice. This body's elemental affinity was simply too poor, and its conversion and recovery of mana were far too slow.
Mages required two things to cast spells: spiritual power and mana. Spiritual power constructed the spell model, while mana filled it. However much spiritual power one possessed would be converted into the same amount of mana, so when casting spells, one generally only needed to calculate one of the two.
Yang Mu had directly eliminated the problem of spiritual power with the Dark Forge Meditation, but the simplest and most effective way to solve the issue of magical elemental affinity was to inscribe Elemental Affinity.
Yang Mu had little need for Apprentice Rank spell models. For ordinary Apprentices, spell models were naturally exceptionally precious, serving as the basis for silent casting, instant spells, and one additional casting opportunity.
A spell model inscribed within the sea of consciousness stored the mana and spiritual power required for one casting, allowing the inscribed spell to be cast once without cost. Moreover, as long as that spell was released, it could be cast instantly.
It could be said that every spell model was a trump card for a low-level Mage. Yang Mu did not need them because every Apprentice Rank spell he cast was already instantaneous.
Even so, his first spell model had still been a defensive spell: Grief's Embrace.
That was because spell models had another function: passive activation. As long as an attack exceeded a certain threshold, they would trigger automatically.
Thus, he had only inscribed Elemental Affinity with his second Apprentice Rank spell model.
In the originally dim middle deck, a ball of white light illuminated the entire crude laboratory. The modified Undead ensured a smooth voyage, giving Yang Mu a stable experimental environment.
A new world represented new knowledge, and every Mage was a fanatic in pursuit of knowledge. He had endured for a long time. Ever since obtaining a stable environment, he had been conducting experiments on all manner of properties, with various potions as byproducts.
And now, he had acquired new experimental material.
Yang Mu happily began dissecting Abel's corpse. Only Mages immersed in the pursuit of knowledge were truly happy.
When they returned to Pirate Island once more, Yang Mu and Jack sat beside the pool of a villa-like residence. Numerous guards stood around them, the sun shone brightly, and the table was covered with juice, fine wine, cigars, and fruit.
Beside Jack lay a red-haired beauty in a swimsuit, her figure voluptuous. Jack's rough hand kneaded one of her peaks.
There was no one beside Yang Mu. It was not that beautiful women had not wanted to approach him; he had simply refused them.
On a reclining chair opposite the two of them lay an enormous fat man with a great yellow beard. Though he looked obese, even in his relaxed state, the outlines of eight-pack abs could still be seen beneath the fat.
Jack was already quite large, but compared to this man, if the two lay together, Jack would clearly look a full size smaller.
Many beautiful women massaged him at his side. He picked up the wineglass beside him and drained its red contents in a single gulp. Some remaining wine dripped from the upturned ends of his beard onto his body, and a female slave immediately crawled over to lick it clean.
This was the master of all Pirate Island: Barrel Daddy.
He was also Yang Mu's largest trading partner at present.
"Little brother, what brings you here in person?"
After taking a drink, Barrel Daddy smiled and spoke to Yang Mu. Aside from the first few transactions, which Yang Mu had personally negotiated with him, Jack had handled the trades after they established a basic level of trust.
Barrel Daddy had now transitioned from a pirate who plundered everywhere into an island lord. He needed many clients like Yang Mu, and unless there was an enormous profit involved, he would not casually break his own rules.
That was why he found it strange that Yang Mu had come personally.
"Since I came, naturally I have a good deal to discuss with you, Barrel."
As he spoke, Yang Mu took out a potion and placed it on the nearby table. The potion was sea-blue, with specks of light like stars floating and swirling within it.
Barrel Daddy looked at the potion on the table but did not pick it up. While the Undead's reputation had spread throughout these waters, Yang Mu, its Captain, was equally notorious. His identity as a dark Wizard had long been confirmed among the upper ranks of pirates.
Touching a dark Wizard's things carelessly could get one killed.
"What is this?"
Looking at the fantastical potion, Barrel Daddy asked in confusion.
"This is a potion that allows someone to transform into a Fishman. Higgs, come here."
A young man standing some distance away, who had arrived with Yang Mu and the others, immediately ran over when he heard Yang Mu call him.
He was the Undead's second mate, bold yet meticulous, and he managed the ship's internal affairs very well. Yang Mu had also wanted to test the effects of cultivating the Dark Forge Meditation on someone with another creature's bloodline.
That was why he was here.
"Drink this."
He had long seen the first mate occasionally drink a similar potion, then wear an expression of bliss as he grew stronger and stronger.
How could he hesitate? Grinning broadly, he picked up the potion and drained it in one gulp.
