Teaching and Living in the Library

It was early March. Since auditing had been allowed, Sagreles's classes had become increasingly popular at Hogwarts.

That day, he had barely entered the classroom with his textbook when a group of students surrounded his messenger, Loctis, chattering away with all kinds of questions.

The Raven on the lectern was so annoyed by the noise that it simply flew up to the ceiling and refused to come down.

Once the students realized Loctis wasn't dangerous, they clearly grew much bolder. They didn't dare bother Sagreles, so they could only pester his messenger instead.

There were still many people in class that day. Even some first-year witches and wizards were seated in the room. Sagreles didn't recognize most of them, but he noticed Harry and his two friends sitting in the front row, staring brightly at the blackboard.

Harry and Ron felt that auditing Professor Greengrass's class was the wisest decision they had ever made, though they seemed to have forgotten that Hermione had originally dragged them here with threats and bribes...

They had all learned quite a lot from this class. Although there were spells they hadn't studied yet, it still helped considerably with their usual coursework.

Harry had also bought three crystal vials from three sixth-years through the Weasley twins. The three small bottles had cost him a full seventeen Galleons. Though he was never short on Galleons, it still made his heart ache a little.

But after receiving them, he no longer thought so. The Rune Crystal Vials made by Professor Greengrass were extremely useful. Whenever Harry ate in the Great Hall, he would secretly pack away some food, then share it with his Gryffindor friends after returning to the common room.

Honestly, every time he enjoyed a midnight snack in the middle of the night, he felt the money had been completely worth it.

Harry had also given one to Ron and Hermione each. Ron filled his vial with Butterbeer—illegally—while Hermione used hers to store library books.

Sagreles entered the classroom, set down his textbook, and began teaching immediately, without any preamble or nonsense.

"Today, we'll be studying the distribution of magical nodes in Lumos..." He placed the textbook on the desk and snapped his fingers casually. The classroom was instantly plunged into darkness.

"Now put away all your foolish fantasies—Lumos isn't mood lighting from some romantic story. It's the first line of defense against darkness."

A few soft chuckles sounded in the dark classroom, but Sagreles's Lumos immediately lit up the entire room.

"The core of the spell lies in control, not creation."

The ball of light at the tip of his wand suddenly split into a swarm of fireflies, settling on the shoulders of the stunned students.

Cedric of Hufflepuff couldn't help raising his hand. "But Professor, the book says..."

"The textbook was written two hundred years ago." The firefly on Cedric's shoulder shattered into specks of light, which landed on his desk and branded several glowing words onto it: AUDITORS MAY NOT ASK QUESTIONS!

Cedric scratched his head awkwardly. The students sitting beside him couldn't help covering their mouths and laughing.

When you encounter advertisements like "Are you a real person?", simply ignore them and close them. Do not scan any codes or send text messages!

"Let me repeat myself—there are generally few questions in my classes, so there are almost no bonus points." He glanced at the students sitting obediently and said calmly, "And since the auditing students are from different years, your progress will naturally vary..."

Many lower-year students had barely learned any spells at all, while the spells he covered in class included everything before the O.W.L.s exams. This meant that some of what he taught was completely unfamiliar to the lower years.

"But that's for you to consider..." Sagreles continued waving his wand without looking back. "Lumos is a very simple spell, but its applications are extensive—driving away darkness, blinding flashes, contacting teammates..."

"And if you can use ambient magical resonance to alter the shape of Lumos..." He flicked his wand, and every firefly turned into a miniature Raven.

"Then congratulations, you've learned bait tactics." The tiny balls of light kept changing shape until they finally became miniature versions of each student, sitting on their shoulders and listening to class.

Sagreles looked at the amazed students in the classroom and nodded in satisfaction.

Any simple magic could be expanded into countless possibilities. He himself hadn't understood that until he was nearly an adult. Fortunately, it wasn't too late. After all, many wizards would never realize this in their entire lives.

With another wave of his wand, the glowing little people on the students' shoulders stood up, pulled out glowing wands of their own, and cast even smaller Lumos spells.

Such precise magical control was far from simple. Sagreles believed that there were probably very few people in the wizarding world capable of doing it now.

Next, he taught them how to use light to transmit messages and how to separate light to drive away dark creatures.

Even as class neared its end, the students were still immersed in those dazzling lights.

After class, Hermione used the Rune Crystal Vial Harry had given her to store the tiny "herself" from her shoulder, looking quite pleased.

With a wave of his hand, he dispelled the darkness in the classroom. Sagreles's wand traced streaks of light through the air, and every glowing orb from Lumos gradually vanished.

"Remember, the most dangerous darkness has never been the shadows cast by the outside world, but the instant you hesitate while casting a spell."

Seeing the students perk up their ears, he finally waved his wand again.

Every textbook was immediately filled with glowing spell notes. "These are some advanced applications of Lumos. Time is limited, so I won't explain them one by one. Those who are interested can take a look."

Before gathering his textbook and leaving the classroom, he turned back and added, "Oh, and the writing will only last until tomorrow's breakfast..."

Several students immediately picked up their quills and began copying the notes from their textbooks.

After leaving the classroom, Sagreles headed straight to the library. He had no classes for the next two days, so this would be another rare stretch of leisure.

There were only three months left in the school year, and many classes had entered their review stages. The young witches and wizards had more and more homework, and Sagreles often saw them bent over their studies in the library.

That was good. His classes might not have homework, but the other professors certainly assigned plenty. Having these young witches and wizards sit obediently in the library researching things was surely better than letting them "use their brains" and "burn off energy." After all, no one knew what they might get up to in the castle.
