They pressed on and finally reached the end of the corridor. Ahead was a staircase leading downward, steep and reeking of damp mildew. After descending it, the space suddenly opened up into a vast underground cavern, about thirty meters high and the size of a football field. All around the cavern were piles of instruments and containers. Soaking inside the containers were bizarre Soul Beast corpses, and some... human-shaped bodies.
At the very center of the cavern stood three enormous iron cages, each imprisoning a Soul Beast. The first resembled a fierce tiger, but it was three times larger than an ordinary one. Its whole body was covered in black scales, its eyes were bloodred, and it was pacing restlessly inside the cage. The second looked like a giant python, but two curved horns grew from its head, and black patterns flowed across the surface of its body as it lay coiled in its cage, motionless. The third was the smallest, only the size of a hunting dog. It looked like a fox, but it had nine tails, and black flames burned on every one of them.
"So these are Void Soul Beasts..." Chen Hao sucked in a cold breath.
"Zhang Wan, start setting up the array," Su Chen said. "Li Yang, guard her. Chen Hao, Lin Xue, come with me to check those instruments. Collect all the research materials."
Zhang Wan immediately took out the jade plate, crouched down in the center of the cavern, and began setting it up. Li Yang stood beside her, arms spread wide, as a layer of yellow light formed a shield around them.
Su Chen, Chen Hao, and Lin Xue split up, storing the cavern's documents and samples inside their Storage Soul Tools. The records were filled with bloody experimental data, every page
