Background / History
Xuan Zhe recalls that Yu Ze grew up comparatively overlooked within the Yu Household and learned early to conceal his nature. Unlike his more openly competitive brothers, Yu Ze kept his preferences and resentments hidden, remained detached from family affection, and developed an interest in watching others turn against one another 110.
In the previous timeline, Yu Ze joined Tang Weisheng against the protagonists. Their combined actions nearly destroyed the protagonist group, establishing Yu Ze as the world’s second villain 110 121.
In the current timeline, Yu Ze was engaged to Zhou Jinhui for a marriage alliance rather than affection. He openly told her that he only needed a wife of suitable status and had no interest in controlling her private feelings, provided she did not involve him in her conflicts 111. After uncovering evidence of her infidelity, he ended the engagement and warned her against targeting Wen Shuang 125.
Yu Ze first took notice of Zhou Qing after steadying him at Power One’s annual meeting. He initially dismissed the encounter as a passing appreciation of Zhou Qing’s appearance, but their subsequent meeting at the amusement park changed his attitude 114. While guiding the night-blind Zhou Qing through a haunted-house escape room, Yu Ze became increasingly protective and later recognized his own attraction 117.
After Zhou Qing began part-time work at Yu Corporation, Yu Ze recruited him for a business meeting, defended him from unwanted attention, and began helping at his flower garden. Zhou Qing’s lard-mixed noodles became a recurring part of their relationship 118 119 123. Yu Ze eventually asked Zhou Qing to try dating him, and Zhou Qing later identified him as his boyfriend 124.
When Zhou Qing revealed that his hereditary eye condition could lead to permanent blindness, Yu Ze immediately researched treatment options, sought Tang Weisheng’s help in reaching specialist Qu Tian, and remained at Zhou Qing’s side through surgery and recovery 134 135 136.
Appearance
Yu Ze is considered notably good-looking, though his polished appearance and warm smile conceal the severity of his methods as Yu Corporation’s manager 118.
- Usually appears in formal business attire, including a white shirt and suit pants 123.
- Wears a mild, courteous expression even when delivering ruthless remarks 123 125.
- Frequently carries cigarettes, though Zhou Qing discourages him from smoking 116 120.
Personality
Yu Ze is reserved, calculating, and intensely private. He dislikes unexpected intrusions into his space, avoids crowds, and habitually keeps his emotions hidden behind calm manners 111 117. He has a shallow moral compass and admits that he enjoys seeing people he hates suffer 123 125.
He prefers indirect conflict to public confrontation. When Tang Weisheng prevents Tan Li from lighting his cigarette, Yu Ze chooses not to escalate immediately, deciding he can settle the matter later 116. His rivalry with Tang Weisheng nevertheless regularly draws out a childish competitiveness, particularly over lard-mixed noodles and sexual roles 115 126.
Zhou Qing gradually exposes Yu Ze’s more attentive side. Yu Ze learns to help in the greenhouse, silently picks Zhou Qing up from work, protects him from unwanted advances, and responds with unusual sincerity to Zhou Qing’s declining eyesight 119 123 134 135.
