Background / History

The empire had already been steadily strengthening before Yan Jingzhe became a Limit Douluo, with other factions anticipating that a second continent-wide war could emerge from its rise. Its military growth made Shrek Academy an unavoidable obstacle to its expansion 22.

During the All-Continent Soul Master Academy Tournament in Star Luo City, the Sun Moon Imperial Soul Engineering Academy entered as Shrek Academy's perennial runner-up. Its team regarded that tournament as its best opportunity to finally defeat Shrek 32 33.

The empire competed aggressively for the Snow Empress Embryo, intending to use it to give Xiao Hongchen a second Martial Soul. Its representatives were willing to liquidate Soul Guidance Devices and accept triple reimbursement costs to secure the item, though Yan Jingzhe ultimately won the auction 38.

After the death of the old emperor, Crown Prince Xu Tianran ascended the throne. He openly pursued continental unification, expanded the Soul Engineer Legions, and brought the Holy Spirit Cult into a close state-backed relationship to compensate for the empire's shortage of top-level individual combatants 76.

The imperial palace is a fortified complex built from alloys, mithril, and black obsidian. Its defenses include layered detection arrays, Rank-8 Soul Guidance cannon platforms, and permanent reconnaissance shuttle patrols 68.

Soul Guidance Devices

• The empire alone possesses the manufacturing techniques for Level-9 Soul Guidance Devices, making such equipment nearly priceless outside its territory. 90

Illustrious Virtue Hall Infiltration

Yan Jingzhe infiltrated Bright City and Illustrious Virtue Hall to study its Soul Guidance designs. After Kong Deming discovered him, the hall mobilized Kong Deming, Jing Hongchen, five Rank-9 Soul Engineers, over twenty Rank-8 Soul Engineers, and a rising defensive barrier against him 65 66.

Yan Jingzhe's counterattack destroyed six of seven defensive barriers and damaged multiple Rank-9 defensive devices, but Kong Deming's Rank-10 barrier prevented the destruction of Illustrious Virtue Hall. The empire subsequently increased security and chose not to provoke Yan Jingzhe further 67 68.

Tournament Host and Political Pressure

Under Xu Tianran, the empire hosted the expanded continental tournament while its ties to the Holy Spirit Cult became increasingly visible. Representatives of the other three empires feared that the tournament could be used to seize or endanger their young elites 90 93 94.

The empire's apparent manipulation of match scheduling, deployment of extensive military security, and public association with Long Xiaoyao heightened the coalition's suspicions 106 107 108.

Assassination Attempt and Border Breakout

Following the tournament, Shrek Academy, the three empires, and the Body Sect launched an assassination operation against Xu Tianran. Imperial Soul Engineers, defensive barriers, the Holy Spirit Cult, and Long Xiaoyao repelled the attack; Xu Tianran's concealed Titled Douluo cultivation and peak ninth-grade defensive Soul Tool ensured his survival 135 136 148.

The empire then pursued the retreating coalition with Soul Engineer units. Its Rank-9 Soul Engineers withdrew only after Yan Jingzhe destroyed Soul Tool aircraft and forced a breakout, judging further pursuit too dangerous 146 147.

Preparation for War

After the failed assassination, the empire imposed a complete ban on Soul Tool metal exports, tightened material controls, and faced rising internal food prices. Shrek's intelligence assessed these measures as clear signs that the empire was preparing for full-scale war 148.

Its combination of elite Soul Engineer Legions, Level-9 Soul Guidance Devices, Kong Deming, Long Xiaoyao, and Holy Spirit Cult support is regarded by Shrek's elders as a threat capable of overwhelming the three great empires' conventional forces 148 149.
