Nature and Classification

Heavenly Flames are regarded as the strongest fires of heaven and earth and as sovereigns over ordinary flames. Their origins can burn matter, temper bodies, refine souls, strengthen Dou Skills, and help cultivators break through bottlenecks. For this reason, they are coveted by alchemists and fire-attributed cultivators alike 79.

Each Heavenly Flame possesses innate spirituality and does not naturally become one with its wielder. Under ordinary methods, an alchemist suppresses a flame with soul pressure and borrows its power while the flame remains an external force 28.

Heavenly Flames are inherently domineering and exclusive toward one another. Yao Xuan exploits this trait by sending a spark of his Three-Colored Heavenly Flame into Falling Heart Flame's seal, provoking the sealed flame into a riot 82.

Heavenly Flame Ranking

The ranking reflects the known standing of individual flames, but cultivation and long-term nourishment can raise a flame beyond its original listed limit. Flame Ancestor's Nine-Dragon Thunder Flame, originally ranked twelfth, is said to have been strengthened until it could rival the sixth-ranked Eight Desolations Annihilation Flame 188.

Heavenly Flames possess tyrannical natural origins that can overwhelm or erase incompatible attribute energies. Yao Xuan's flames gradually cleanse a thousand years of wind essence from the Wind Spirit Treasure Pearl without damaging the pearl's core 58.

• Their fire can refine foreign energies and preserve a target's original foundation when handled with sufficient precision 58.
• A flame's origin may be extracted as a seed or source flame for later refinement 89 107.
• Complete flame origins provide immense energy capable of driving major cultivation breakthroughs 60 112.

Spirituality and Resistance

Even seemingly docile Heavenly Flames retain will and resistance. The Yellow Mysterious Flame, though considered the easiest to subdue due to its stable temperament, still resists Yao Xuan's refinement attempt 14.

Flame Fusion

The Flame Mantra overturns ordinary flame-control methods by devouring and fusing flames rather than merely suppressing them. It allows Heavenly Flames to assimilate with its cultivator and coexist within their body 28.

• It has a humanoid form with dragon horns and a dragon tail, giving it the appearance of a little dragon person 188.

Refinement and Limitations

• Ordinary alchemists use pure soul pressure to restrain a Heavenly Flame, but this only permits temporary use of its power rather than true integration 28.
• Heavenly Flame refinement can inflict extreme bodily pain, fire poisoning, origin erosion, or backlash if the flame and cultivator are incompatible 48 71.
• The Netherworld Poison Flame is unusually docile toward Little Doctor Fairy because her Calamity Poison Body shares its poisonous origin, but absorbing its full origin still causes a dangerous backlash by drawing surrounding poisonous vapors into her body 71.
