Background / History

Chu Lan grew up next door to Xia Yu and is one year older than him. Although Xia Yu describes their bond as close enough to be “real brothers,” Chu Lan remembers their childhood as traumatic: he believes Xia Yu’s seemingly harmless behavior repeatedly left him injured, including fractures and ICU stays. He therefore fears Xia Yu intensely and avoids provoking him whenever possible. 5 9 14 28 49

After Xia Yu leaves abroad, Chu Lan and Xia Wanqing become members of the five-person AC Boy Group, which debuts two years before Xia Yu’s return and becomes highly popular. Chu Lan and Xia Wanqing are the group’s two most popular members. 5

When Xia Yu returns, Chu Lan initially tries to shield Xia Wanqing from him and suggests that Xia Wanqing move into the company dormitory to avoid the Xia household. He ultimately moves into the dormitory with Xia Wanqing before the group’s scheduled recording. 1 9 21

Xia Yu’s Return

Chu Lan recognizes that Xia Yu’s return to the Xia household means danger for Xia Wanqing. He supports Xia Wanqing after his fall, tries to leave quickly when Xia Yu approaches, and repeatedly attempts to keep the peace between the half-brothers. 1 2 6 10

Company Dormitory Move

Concerned for Xia Wanqing’s safety, Chu Lan agrees to take him to the company dormitory. Xia Wanqing is happy to live with him, while Chu Lan frames the move as a way to avoid Xia Yu’s unpredictable temper and powerful family backing. 21

*Live Until the End*

Chu Lan becomes captain of the Blue Team and leads its early survival strategy. Xia Yu repeatedly attaches himself to Chu Lan, drawing hostile audience speculation and increasing Chu Lan’s frustration. 25 26 29

Xia Yu eliminates Chu Lan with a sniper rifle, claiming poor marksmanship. After Xia Wanqing obtains a Revival Card to revive him, Chu Lan accepts Xia Yu’s apology outwardly but remains resentful. 30 31 32

During a later search, Chu Lan finds a Revival Card but allows Xia Wanqing to ambush Xia Yu, blocking Xia Yu from drawing his gun. This decision is publicly exposed after Xia Yu confronts him. 36 45

Xia Yu’s snake-egg trap leaves Chu Lan terrified when hatchlings emerge from his backpack and attract larger snakes. The incident sharply raises Chu Lan’s fear and anger toward Xia Yu. 40

After a Teammate Exchange Card transfers him to the Red Team, Chu Lan gives his supplies to Liu Yue and Xueli before leaving. He then resumes leadership duties for the Red Team. 41 42 43

In the final confrontation, Xia Yu eliminates both Xia Wanqing and Chu Lan. Xia Yu physically pins Chu Lan down and uses a retractable knife to frighten him before the elimination, triggering an overwhelming fear response. 47

Post-Game Questioning

During a post-game segment, Xia Yu selects Chu Lan and publicly asks whether he is dating Xia Wanqing. Under pressure, Chu Lan denies that they are dating and states that both men are currently single. 48 49
