Yan Siming was raised as the pampered youngest son of the Yan Family. As a small child, he followed Yan Jinyu around and called him a “bastard,” reflecting the hostility between the brothers from an early age. 27

At school, Siming became the class boss, using his family’s wealth and influence to intimidate teachers alongside the group he led. 48 He was especially attached to Yan Tiancheng, whom he regarded as his “real” elder brother. When gossip about Tiancheng’s parentage spread, Siming worried that his father might abandon Tiancheng while blaming Song Yichuan for exposing the family’s secrets. 16

His insecurity worsened after he overheard his parents’ violent argument over infidelity and paternity. The incident caused him to turn further against Yan Jinyu, whom he believed was not truly his brother. 26
