Nick Fury fell silent in thought. Just as Daisy was wondering whether she should leave, the Director asked again, "Will that small island in the middle of the lake in Costa Rica produce any particle dispersal? Are any mutated insects still lingering there? Hill and the others can't conveniently show themselves, but you're a fresh face. Handle the follow-up issues, and then you can go to Yale."
The Director's words allowed no room for doubt. After thinking it over, Daisy accepted the assignment. Unlike Puerto Rico back then, she now had S.H.I.E.L.D. behind her. The trouble belonged to S.H.I.E.L.D., but the connections would be her own. It wouldn't hurt to use this opportunity to get in touch with some people.
When she returned to her room, Daisy found Hill sitting inside waiting for her.
Though they weren't as close as Nick Fury and Frank, Daisy and Hill were still comrades and friends. Daisy didn't stand on ceremony. She poured herself a glass of water and waited for Hill to speak.
"About the scar repair last time?" Hill hesitated, her expression somewhat strange.
Daisy felt equally awkward. Who knew why she was so sensitive? Even in the United States, such a private topic was difficult to bring up.
"There are still two scars. Can you repair them?"
"Of course."
"Can we go to my room?"
Daisy agreed immediately. Under the strange looks of several trainees, she followed Hill into her room.
Hill's room was arranged differently from hers. Daisy wasn't exactly messy, but she had nothing to do with tidiness either. Clothes and books were scattered everywhere. Of course, Sharon's room—and the rooms of most female trainees—were about the same.
Hill was different from all of them. Everything was meticulously organized, with books neatly sorted across the shelves. She mostly read books on military affairs, history, and biographies, as well as books on languages, etiquette, and other subjects that gave Daisy a headache just looking at them.
"So, how do we..." Before she could finish, Hill began taking off her clothes. Daisy nearly bit her tongue. A situation where someone stripped the moment they met dealt a thousand-point blow straight to her male soul.
Fortunately, she quickly reined in her thoughts and adjusted her mindset. She had to look at this from a healer's perspective. Probably...
Wearing only her underwear, Hill sat in a chair with her back to Daisy.
The scar on her shoulder blade from last time had completely vanished, but the gunshot scar at her waist was still clearly visible.
Daisy was a little at a loss. Her back had been sensitive enough last time, and this was her waist. Never mind any nerve centers—just judging by the distance, it was obviously much closer.
She didn't know how good the soundproofing was in the trainees' rooms. If things got too loud later, that would be ridiculously melodramatic.
Daisy really wanted to stuff a towel or something into Hill's mouth, but this wasn't removing a bullet. It didn't seem necessary.
"I'm starting." After Hill nodded, Daisy added a trace of her ability to her fingertip and gently pressed down.
The necrotic cells were directly shattered, but vibrations were a form of force and could be transmitted. No matter how much Daisy restrained them, some of the vibrational force still spread outward...
"Mm—" Hill felt a buzzing roar explode in her head. The pleasure rising from the deepest part of her body nearly made her cry out. She hurriedly covered her mouth, her face flushing red as she forced herself to endure it.
But sensations couldn't simply be endured through willpower. They did not bend to personal intent. Hill felt like a bowstring drawn taut.
As the vibration from Daisy's finger swayed through her body, the bowstring was pulled tighter and tighter. Ten seconds, twenty seconds, one minute... At last, it snapped completely at a certain critical point.
Her muscles contracted violently, and her mind went blank. It took a long while before she regained her senses.
Looking at Daisy's innocent face and wandering gaze, Hill was so ashamed that she wanted to bite someone!
As an elite agent, she knew perfectly well what had just happened.
There was actually another scar on her thigh, but Hill was genuinely frightened now. She needed to throw Daisy out immediately, then shower and change clothes—not continue the treatment.
Perhaps some modern, trendy women didn't care about such private matters, or even used them as something to boast about to one another. But she wasn't that uninhibited.
Seeing her embarrassment, Daisy understood instantly. Avoiding Hill's gaze, she said, "Um... the Director assigned me something else. Let's continue the treatment next time."
"Sure. Thank you." Though she said thank you, she didn't rise from the chair until Daisy had left the room.
"Was my vibration frequency too high?" Daisy walked out in utter confusion and looked at her fingers. Heaven knew, she had truly been trying to treat her, without a single improper thought. After pondering it for a long time without reaching any conclusion, she wondered whether she could experiment on Miss Maid next time she returned to New York.
Daisy needed to deal with the aftermath in Costa Rica. She first went to the archives to look through how previous agents had handled similar situations.
After roughly going through the files, she found that the methods were basically all about covering things up: gas leaks, genetic mutations caused by chemical plant pollution, and so on. The simplest method was to blame terrorists.
The World Trade Center had been bombed by terrorists, North Sea Kindergarten had been attacked by terrorists—every bad thing could be pinned on terrorists' heads. It wasn't as if they would come out and deny it.
She could follow the same pattern, but she wouldn't get much benefit from it. This was a rare chance to borrow S.H.I.E.L.D.'s authority. If she didn't carve out some benefits for herself, she would truly fail the expectations of Nick Fury, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s foremost talent poacher.
Daisy had a rough idea, but she still needed to do some preliminary work before carrying it out.
She first sought out Leo Fitz, who had modified her pistol. Though this guy skilled in mechanical engineering couldn't compare to Tony Stark, he was still a genius within S.H.I.E.L.D. Aside from being a little timid, he had no major flaws.
"Going to Costa Rica?" Fitz looked at Daisy in confusion, unable to understand why she was taking him somewhere so far away.
Daisy picked out the parts of the mission she could talk about and told him, then said, "The Director is worried that there may still be particle residue there that could damage the local ecosystem, so..."
"So the Director thought of me?" Fitz became incredibly excited. His face glowed red, and even his curls seemed to radiate joy.
Daisy gave an awkward laugh. As if the Director even knew who you were. I was the one who thought of you, okay!
She smiled like the Mona Lisa, neither confirming nor denying it. "Isn't your girlfriend, Jemma Simmons, an expert in biochemistry? Call her too. We're leaving immediately."
Fitz hurriedly denied it. "No, no, she's not my girlfriend..."
Seeing how he said no with his mouth while practically bursting with happiness inside, Daisy was speechless. She had him call Simmons out.
Jemma Simmons was still somewhat young and inexperienced at this point. She had long flaxen hair falling over her shoulders, and when she arrived, she was carrying two thick books heavy enough to kill someone. She looked every inch the bookworm.
However, she appeared more composed than Fitz. Even in front of a popular trainee like Daisy, she spoke clearly and logically.
Time was tight and the mission urgent. Daisy vaguely claimed it was the Director's order, then pulled the two of them aboard the Quinjet.
