Background / History

Tongtian is the youngest of the Three Pure Ones, alongside Taiqing and Yuqing Yuanshi. Before the Three Pure Ones attain Sagehood or divide their household, they cultivate together at Kunlun Mountain and remain deeply united despite Tongtian's frequent disagreements with Yuanshi over accepting disciples 6.

When Jing Chu, Zhao Gongming, Yunxiao, Qiongxiao, and Bixiao arrive at Kunlun Mountain, Tongtian recognizes their affinity, virtuous natures, and exceptional origins. He personally intercepts them on the mountain and accepts all five as his direct disciples, intending to pass down the Upper Pure orthodoxy 6.

He later brings the five disciples to meet Taiqing and Yuanshi, directs them to establish cave dwellings on Kunlun Mountain, and teaches them the Supreme Purity Dao Method. His lecture enables Jing Chu to break through successive Taiyi Golden Immortal stages while helping the other disciples deepen their understanding of the Dao 7 9.

When Jing Chu seeks to travel the Primordial World, Tongtian approves the journey, grants him the Purple Lightning Hammer for protection, and directs him toward accumulating Merit by purifying the world's baleful qi and resentment 11 12.

Personality

Tongtian is enthusiastic about teaching and values affinity, virtue, and potential in prospective disciples. Unlike Yuanshi, who prioritizes origins and root nature, Tongtian advocates teaching without discrimination and seeks “a sliver of survival” for all living beings 6.

He is casual and unconstrained in manner, imposing few formal rules on his disciples. Nevertheless, he appreciates proper etiquette and takes his role as a teacher seriously, personally protecting Jing Chu during a breakthrough and patiently answering Yunxiao's persistent questions on the Dao 9 11.

Tongtian is fiercely protective of his disciples. He encourages Jing Chu to travel without fear, provides him with a powerful defensive treasure, and makes clear that bearing Tongtian's name is itself protection 11.
