Background / History

Li Zhengyuan initially identifies the era as one before the Dao of Heaven had emerged. His cultivation soon produces an immense phenomenon that draws its direct attention, however, and the Dao of Heaven manifests above Five Villages Temple as a Heavenly Dao Judgment before withdrawing without explanation. Li is left uncertain whether it recognized his transmigration or deliberately chose not to reveal it 2 3.

The Dao of Heaven acts against threats that violate heavenly order. Hun'e states that after he was born from the Chaos Fiendgod of Evil, cursed Heaven and Earth, slaughtered living beings, and damaged the earthly membrane, the Dao of Heaven sent a Thunder Calamity against him. It later allowed Hongjun Daoist to suppress Hun'e through a Human Calamity rather than execute him outright 11 12.

Its later interventions consistently reward acts that protect the Primordial World: Zhen Yuanzi receives Heavenly Dao Merit for killing Hun'e, restoring damaged earth veins, and assisting with further repairs alongside the Heaven-Earth Daoist 13 16 18.

Manifestation

The Dao of Heaven has no physical body described in the text. Its Heavenly Dao Judgment appears as crushing black clouds gathering into a black hole above its target 3.

The Dao of Heaven can focus its awareness upon an individual through the Heavenly Dao Judgment.

• Examines a target so thoroughly that their past, present, future, thoughts, and intentions seem exposed. 3
• Issues an implicit warning against reckless action through its overwhelming majesty. 3
• Withdraws from Li Zhengyuan after its inspection; the reason for this retreat is not revealed. 3

Calamity and Punishment

It enforces consequences against beings whose actions threaten Heaven and Earth.

• Sent a Thunder Calamity against Hun'e for his destructive conduct. 11
• Intended to destroy Hun'e before accepting Hongjun Daoist's mediation and changing the punishment to imprisonment. 12

The Dao of Heaven can acknowledge novel or virtuous creations with auspicious phenomena.
