History

Creation and primordial order

The Primordial World was born when the Primordial Heavenly King used a supreme divine axe to split open Chaos and establish heaven and earth. Primordial qi had lain within Chaos, while the Five Primordials gestated in the void; from these beginnings, the Three Extremes and yin-yang took their places in the world's order 1.

The Dao functions as the world's ultimate, unseen sovereign, maintaining cosmic discipline and ensuring all things operate according to established laws. Innate Divinities serve as pivotal beings within this order, governing key mechanisms of the world's development 1.

At the time of Li Zhengyuan's arrival as Zhen Yuanzi, the world is described as being before the emergence of the Dao of Heaven. Innate beings possess significant fortune and protection: before their destined time, they cannot be killed without damaging the killer's fortune and Merit 2.

Calamities and decline

Across its history, the Primordial World endures a succession of devastating Kalpas:

1. Ferocious Beasts' campaigns — violent struggles for survival resources.
2. Dragon-Han Cataclysm — a disaster that pushes the world toward destruction.
3. Wu-Yao War — a conflict that brings widespread suffering to living beings.
4. Investiture of the Gods War — a struggle among factions for power and glory.
5. Journey to the West Calamity — another shock inflicted upon an already weakened world. 1

These calamities progressively erode the world's foundation and grind away at the supreme Dao it once possessed. Chapter 1 ultimately describes the world shattering, with even Primordial Unity and Transcendence Realm experts unable to escape the resulting destruction 1.

Hongjun Daoist nevertheless calls the Primordial World unique and irreplaceable, stating that even the Primordial Heavenly King could not create another one 13.

Reinforcement of the origin

Ferocious Demons in Outer Heaven attempt to gnaw through the Primordial World Womb Membrane and seize the world's authority. Heaven-Earth Daoist, Hongjun Daoist, Yang Mei, Lady Violet Light, Yin-Yang Daoist, and other Dao Venerables fight them in Chaos to protect the world 27.

After the battle, five ancestors burn the Fiends' corpses with World-Cleansing Dao Fire for forty thousand years, producing pure Dao Origin Essence. They combine their supreme treasures with the Creation Jade Disc to merge this essence into the World Womb Membrane, strengthening the world's origin 28.

The reinforcement makes the heavens brighter, the earth heavier, and the world's rules more complete. It also strengthens the Earthly Dao's origin, accelerates the gestation of Earthly Dao deities, and hastens the growth of Nailing's companion spirit treasure within Tang Mountain 28.

Geography and cosmology

Natural laws

Dao and Dao of Heaven

The Dao governs the world's fundamental order, while the Dao of Heaven oversees cultivators and can respond to major acts. Zhen Yuanzi's early cultivation creates a phenomenon significant enough to attract the Dao of Heaven's scrutiny, manifested as an oppressive black-hole-like judgment in the clouds 2 3.

The Dao of Heaven rewards actions that benefit the world. Zhen Yuanzi receives Heavenly Dao Merit after slaying Hun'e and again after restoring damaged earth veins near Undying Volcano 13 16.

Merit

Heavenly Dao Merit is recognized as a legitimate means of improving cultivation without destabilizing one's mana. It can strengthen a realm, deepen comprehension of Dao rhythms, improve a spirit treasure's grade, and increase fortune 14 19.

Merit can also affect lesser beings indirectly. The breeze later named Qingfeng is nourished by a trace of Merit after assisting Zhen Yuanzi's miasma-clearing work for tens of millions of years 28.

Earthly Dao

The Earthly Dao is tied to the world's terrain, earth veins, and the flourishing of living beings. Damaged or disordered earth veins produce miasma and suffering, while their restoration renews the land's vitality 16 18.

Zhen Yuanzi, born from Primordial Yang Earth and united with the Earthly Dao's qi, senses the strengthening of the world's Earthly Dao origin directly. Its improvement also suggests that more Earthly Dao divinities will be born 2 28.

Major events within the world

• Zhen Yuanzi's birth — Li Zhengyuan's true spirit merges with Earth Suluo True Primordial Qi beneath the western lands, forming the cocoon from which Zhen Yuanzi is eventually born. The Ginseng Fruit Tree and Earth Book are nurtured beside him 25.
• Hun'e's destruction — Zhen Yuanzi kills the Chaos Fiendgod Hun'e with the Earth Book, Apricot-Yellow Banner, Nine Autumn Sword, and a mountain-based killing formation, removing a heavily karmic threat to the world 13.
• Restoration near Undying Volcano — Zhen Yuanzi clears miasma, rearranges mountains and waterways, and straightens disrupted earth veins after the feathered clans' actions harm local living beings 16.
• Millions of years of earth-vein repairs — Zhen Yuanzi accompanies Heaven-Earth Daoist across the world to restore damaged earth veins, receiving merit and instruction in the Heaven-Earth Dao 18.
• Creation of the Pure Good Void Compassion Earth-Spirit Realm — Having attained Dao Lordhood, Zhen Yuanzi opens a separate world in the Void Sea using the Earth Book and entrusts his Dao Fruit to it 25 26.
