Background

Fire Luan was born from the same egg as Vermilion Bird, with both sisters embodying the innate Fire Dao. Vermilion Bird emerged first and allowed the egg's fire qi to escape, incurring killing karma that was subsequently reckoned upon Fire Luan, who remained within the egg. This left Fire Luan consumed by resentment and killing intent, representing the fierce side of the Fire Dao. 23

She possessed the Fire God's Body from birth and entered the world as a Half-step Dao Lord. By the time she encountered Li Zhengyuan, she had reached the Dao Lord Realm. Thirty thousand kalpas earlier, she had devoured innumerable living beings, then slept in the void until hunger drew her out again. 21

Appearance

Fire Luan is a majestic divine bird wreathed in flames, capable of tearing open the surrounding void with her blade-like beak. Her arrival turns the sky into a road of flowing fire and raises the heat high enough to melt the void. 21

Personality

Fire Luan is innately savage, hot-tempered, and driven by hunger and slaughter. She attacks Li Zhengyuan on sight with the intention of devouring him, and persists in fighting even after recognizing his superiority. 21 23

She is also calculating in battle. When threatened by Li Zhengyuan's Dao sword, she attacks him with her red rope while using astral wind from her wing to obstruct the sword, prioritizing offense over defense. 22

Following her defeat and binding, Fire Luan obeys Zhen Yuanzi's orders out of necessity. She guards his seclusion at Tang Mountain and later serves as his mount and chariot-puller. 24 26

Story Role / Major Arcs

Attack on Li Zhengyuan

Awakening from a long sleep in the region of Undying Volcano, Fire Luan mistakes Li Zhengyuan for prey and attacks him. Their physical contest and subsequent magical battle reveal her fire techniques, red rope, and red smoke, but Li Zhengyuan eventually traps her with the Earth Book and seals her Primordial Spirit with the Lost Soul Bell. 21 22 23

Subjugation as a Mount

Vermilion Bird arrives before Li Zhengyuan can kill Fire Luan, explains her sister's karmic origins, and offers Fire Luan as his mount for one cosmic cycle. Fire Luan is released, fitted with her red cord, and ridden away by Li Zhengyuan. 23

Service to Zhen Yuanzi

Fire Luan guards Zhen Yuanzi's Dharma during his seclusion at Tang Mountain, carries him during later journeys, and draws the Auspicious Virtue Fire Luan Chariot after its creation. 24 26 28
