Background / History

Kushina was born in Konoha Year 24 and became the Nine-Tails’ Jinchūriki during childhood. The village treats her as an essential strategic asset, which restricts her freedom and keeps her under the attention of Konoha’s leadership. Hiruzen Sarutobi refuses Danzo’s proposal to place her in Root, arguing that she has already suffered enough and should not have her humanity erased. 3 18

At the Ninja Academy, Kushina competes intensely with Minato. She takes the graduation exam specifically to surpass him and prove that she can become Konoha’s first female Hokage. Although she fights aggressively and demands that Minato not go easy on her, her concern for him is evident whenever he is injured or endangered. 4 6 7

Soon after, Kumogakure shinobi abduct her while she is unconscious. Minato and Feng Xun pursue the kidnappers, and Minato ultimately rescues her after defeating two Chunin.
