Background

Mito became the Nine-Tails' Jinchuriki and spent decades suppressing the beast with her sealing arts. The burden continuously drained her life force, leaving her elderly, physically weakened, and concerned that she would not survive long enough to protect the Senju, Uzumaki, Tsunade, Nawaki, and Kushina. She later acknowledged that her becoming a Jinchuriki had helped draw other villages' attention to Uzumaki sealing arts and made the clan a target. 25 30 56

She opposed Tobirama Senju's isolation of the Uchiha and recognized that Hiruzen Sarutobi's faction had been weakening both the Senju and Uchiha for its own interests. Rather than preserve old clan grudges, Mito chose to seek an alliance with Uchiha Chisato for their mutual survival. 24 25 30

During negotiations, Xunjing diagnosed her condition as severe life-force depletion rather than an incurable illness. Land of Whirlpools Rescue

After receiving intelligence that the Three Great Ninja Villages were moving against the Land of Whirlpools, Mito immediately mobilizes the Senju and coordinates with Chisato's Uchiha forces.
