All 37 billion stars on Primordial Source's cloak went dark. They had not been devoured; they had voluntarily suspended their existence—the obsessions of the Zero Era knew that "existence" itself was a risk here.
The three waited in silence.
On the fourth day, the rift changed.
A point of light appeared at the center of the black vortex. It was neither white nor gold, but a color never seen before: negation itself. It did not illuminate its surroundings; it made everything around it no longer need illumination.
The point expanded, and a figure stepped out of the rift.
It was not solid. It was an outline condensed from "negation." It had no features, no limbs, no fixed form, yet every being who saw it formed a clear image in their mind—the thing they feared most.
Harmonic Leaptone saw a vast, silent blank that would never hear her harmonics.
Myriad Faces saw countless mirrors shatter at once, with no reflections in any of the fragments.
Primordial Source saw the moment the Zero Era was destroyed, every civilization vanishing soundlessly, without even a scream.
"Vermin of the Ember Era." The figure spoke, its voice rising from every being's impulse to deny themselves. "I am the First Emissary of the Zeroers."
Harmonic Leaptone clenched her teeth and tore herself free from her fear. "What do the Nullifiers want?"
The emissary raised a tentacle condensed from "negation" and pointed into the depths of the Star Sea—toward the 370 million civilizations.
"In the previous cosmic era, the Definition System collapsed. The Nullifiers carried out the purge, clearing space for your era. But before your era collapsed, it completed its transition and gained the ability to create definitions on its own. This violates the Cosmic Iteration Rule."
"The Iteration Rule?" Harmonic Leaptone sneered. "Who made it?"
