Background / History
Lin Bei was originally a corporate worker whose life consisted of extreme overtime. He died while staying up to finish a presentation, then awakened in 1990s Kanagawa as a wealthy Chinese exchange student at Shohoku High School. His new life came with a system that grants Shock Points for winning basketball games and Slacking Points for lying flat; both currencies can be exchanged for Kuroko’s Basketball-derived skills and items. However, he must help Shohoku keep winning or risk being forced back into a working life. 1
On his first day with the basketball club, Lin Bei attempts to avoid practice by claiming illnesses and hiding on the bench. Forced into a first-year practice game, he uses Gaze Induction to remain unnoticed until Akagi orders him to shoot. His impossible Formless Shot reveals his hidden ability, and he subsequently beats Kaede Rukawa in a one-on-one challenge for the privilege of skipping morning practice and leaving afternoon training early. 1 2
Lin Bei becomes a key reserve in Shohoku’s practice match against Ryonan. After entering with Shohoku down 21–0, he breaks their scoring drought through Gaze Induction and precise passing, then works with Sakuragi, Rukawa, and Akagi to overturn the match. His three-point-and-one play gives Shohoku the lead, and the team wins 90–89. The exertion leaves him unconscious immediately afterward, exposing his severe stamina problem. 9 10 16 17 18
Recognizing that skills alone are insufficient, Lin Bei begins stamina training despite his dislike of exercise. He expands his informal “master-disciple” circle by taking in Sakuragi and Miyagi, provides both with expensive basketball shoes, and trains them in ways that improve Shohoku’s overall options. 19 21 22 25 26
During the conflict with Mitsui’s gang, Lin Bei reveals that his system skills are not limited to basketball. He subdues the first assault with Tai Chi, later joins the gym brawl to avoid leaving a mess for Akagi, and defeats Tetsuo with a Tai Chi and Eight Extremes Fist combination. 24 28
In the Kanagawa qualifiers, Lin Bei functions as Shohoku’s variable weapon rather than a fixed-position player. He takes over against Miuradai with complete template activations, scores 129 points in Shohoku’s 129–47 win, and later provides the tactical idea that helps Shohoku attack beneath Shoyo’s taller defenders. 35 36 37 38 44
Appearance
Lin Bei is a lean, 188-centimeter student whose attractive face contrasts sharply with his permanently tired-looking expression. He is frequently seen asleep beneath a towel, in a hoodie, or wearing headphones. 1 2 4 21
- Handsome enough to draw attention from classmates and spectators. 1 31
- Distinctive half-lidded “dead-fish eyes” that usually convey boredom or exhaustion. 1 2
- Wears Shohoku’s number 16 jersey during games. 9 15
- Initially has untidy hair; later appears with a neat short haircut. 31
- Often carries iced coffee, cola, or sports drinks. 23 24 26
Personality
Lin Bei is fundamentally lazy, pragmatic, and obsessed with comfort. He views standing as inferior to sitting and sitting as inferior to lying down, routinely prioritizing naps, early dismissal, and avoiding unnecessary movement over conventional athletic ambition. 1 2
His apparent apathy masks a calculating mind. He quickly identifies how to use teammates efficiently, whether by turning Sakuragi into a screen and alley-oop finisher, exploiting Shoyo’s weak low coverage, or manipulating opponents through Gaze Induction. 3 10 12 44
Although he initially treats Sakuragi and Miyagi as convenient errand-runners, Lin Bei is quietly generous and invested in their growth. He buys Sakuragi replacement shoes for training, gives Miyagi his desired sneakers, and participates in scrimmages and training despite repeatedly protesting that he wants to go home. 21 26 40
Abilities & Skills
System and Template Use
Lin Bei’s system awards Shock Points for basketball victories and Slacking Points for resting. He exchanges them for basketball templates, skills, martial arts, and items. 1 23
- Can activate individual skills for specific boosts or activate an entire Generation of Miracles template. 36
- Full-template activation greatly improves his attributes but doubles stamina consumption. 36 37
- His natural stamina remains his main weakness; overuse can leave him unconscious immediately after a game. 18 42
- Uses Stamina Potions to recover after high-output performances. 3 12
Gaze Induction
A Kuroko-derived passive that reduces Lin Bei’s presence and makes players subconsciously ignore him. 1
- Lets him disappear from defensive awareness and receive or deliver unexpected passes. 1 9
- Allows him to steal from opponents who focus entirely on the basket or ball. 5
- Its effectiveness drops sharply when opponents, such as Sendoh, deliberately focus on the ball rather than Lin Bei’s gaze. 9
Passing and Playmaking
Lin Bei is an exceptional passer with the ability to create scoring chances without looking directly at his target. 9 35
- Uses Accelerated Pass to fire high-speed passes through narrow defensive gaps. 27 35
- Creates easy baskets for Rukawa through no-look passes and deceptive midair assists. 37
- Designed the “Copper Wall, Iron Wall” screen play with Sakuragi to free himself against Sendoh. 10
- Developed “Genius Airdrop,” an alley-oop setup that uses Sakuragi’s leaping ability. 12
Daiki Aomine Style
Lin Bei’s Aomine-derived offensive skills emphasize extreme speed, impossible body control, and unpredictable scoring angles. 2 11
- Hyper-Speed Dribbling — Blows past defenders before they can react, including Rukawa, Miyagi, and Sendoh. 2 11 25
- Formless Shot — Scores from contorted or off-balance positions that conventional shooting mechanics cannot reproduce. 1 11 37
- Vanishing Dribble — Disappears from a defender’s awareness during a drive. 11
- Complete Aomine template attributes include 99 speed, 98 dribbling, 99 mid-range shooting, and 97 vertical leap; its stamina remains only 60. 36
Shintaro Midorima Style
Lin Bei’s Midorima-derived shooting template allows him to punish defenders from extraordinary range. 14
- Full-Range Shooting — Guarantees a successful shot when his form is not disrupted within its stated beginner range. 14
- Can shoot from well beyond normal three-point distance, forcing defenses to extend and opening space for teammates. 14 15 37
- Requires a stable shooting form and heavily taxes his stamina. 14 15
Basketball Intelligence and Tactical Analysis
Lin Bei possesses a basketball IQ of 96 on his personal system panel. 19
- Identifies opponents’ defensive habits and adapts his play accordingly. 9 15
- Exploits Shoyo’s height by recommending bounce passes beneath defenders and forcing tall players to change direction. 44
- Can shift between guard and forward responsibilities, making him difficult to assign a conventional position. 35
Martial Arts
Lin Bei can exchange Slacking Points for combat techniques and apply them with minimal wasted movement. 23 24
- Tai Chi — Redirects incoming force, breaks opponents’ balance, and defeats multiple attackers without relying on brute strength. 24 28
- Eight Extremes Fist — A direct, explosive striking style used after Tai Chi disrupts an opponent’s balance. 28
- Defeated Tetsuo, the strongest member of Mitsui’s group, with a Tai Chi redirection followed by a rising elbow strike. 28
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Limited-edition AJ1 basketball shoes. 1
- Sports car used for commuting to school. 19
- A luxury sporting-goods store purchased because he wanted a convenient place to nap while trying on shoes. 21
- Stamina Potions received as system rewards. 3 12
- Expensive basketball shoes supplied to Sakuragi and Miyagi as “disciple” gifts. 21 26
Relationships
- Hanamichi Sakuragi — His first disciple and self-appointed protector. Lin Bei initially tricks Sakuragi with the fictitious “Instant Teleportation” technique, but later teaches him practical screens and alley-oop timing while funding his shoes. 3 10 12 21
- Ryota Miyagi — His second disciple. Miyagi challenges Lin Bei, loses in under two seconds, and asks to learn his dribbling; Lin Bei later trains and advises him. 25 26 47
- Kaede Rukawa — Rival and teammate. Lin Bei’s effortless one-on-one victory drives Rukawa to train harder, while the two develop effective on-court chemistry. 2 3 16 37
- Takenori Akagi — Team captain who forces Lin Bei to participate and recognizes him as Shohoku’s secret weapon despite his behavior. 1 5 42
- Ayako Inoue — Shohoku’s manager, who repeatedly catches him sleeping but also sees his care for Sakuragi and values his tactical input. 1 21 44
- Akira Sendoh — Major rival. Sendoh quickly discovers the weakness of Gaze Induction, while Lin Bei’s unpredictability and late-game shooting help Shohoku defeat Ryonan. 9 16 17
- Coach Anzai — Recognizes Lin Bei’s potential early and later reserves him as a decisive weapon because of his stamina limits. 3 42
Story Role / Major Arcs
- Shohoku newcomer arc — Reveals his system skills, defeats Rukawa, and earns special training privileges by treating basketball as a route to more rest. 1 2 3
