Hanjiang City People's Hospital.
The first time Zhang Ze saw the hospital, he felt a little uneasy. But on second thought, whether it was the Third Ward or the Xinhai City Hospital next door, they were essentially psychiatric hospitals.
Hanjiang City People's Hospital, on the other hand, was a general hospital. It was different.

The outpatient department was straight ahead after entering. The emergency department was to the left, and the inpatient department to the right. The caller was on the third floor of the inpatient department.
Zhang Ze and Kuai Liang went up to the third floor. Before they could find the ward, they saw a trembling old man huddled in the corridor. The moment he spotted Kuai Liang, he rushed over as if he had found a lifeline.
"Officer!"
"Go take a look at the old man in Bed One. He wouldn't sleep in the middle of the night and kept tiptoeing around everywhere. He even came right up to my face. I thought I'd run into a ghost."
"Think about it—what if I had a heart condition or something? What if he scared me into a medical emergency? You have to help me..."
Zhang Ze spoke first. "You wouldn't happen to be Zhu Xiu, would you?"
Zhu Xiu froze. "How did you know my name?"
He remembered that he had not given his name when he called the police, nor had he revealed anything related to his identity. How did Zhang Ze know his name?
Zhang Ze smacked his lips.
It really was Zhu Xiu.
A newcomer to the Monster Association.
But after this little incident, history had changed drastically.
At the very least, now that Zhang Ze had found Zhu Xiu, he could not let this guy end up joining the Monster Association later. It was for his own good. If he went there, his fate would be unimaginably miserable.
Hannibal's side was all about indulging in fine food and drink.
"Where is the pervert you mentioned?"
"Was there any physical altercation between you two?"
Kuai Liang asked seriously.
Zhu Xiu pointed into the ward.
Kuai Liang went in for a look and was startled as well.
The ward was pitch-black, with no lights on. Moonlight filtered through the curtains and illuminated the room. A short old man in a hospital gown was tiptoeing around Zhu Xiu's bed in a bizarre posture.
His eyes remained closed the entire time.
Even after Kuai Liang entered, the old man did not stop. Instead, like a puppet on strings, he kept repeating the same action.
"Did this perv... old man show any other unusual behavior?" Kuai Liang asked as he stepped back out.
Zhu Xiu answered, "For the past two nights, he sometimes wouldn't sleep. He'd stare blankly in one direction in the room."
"I turned on the lights and asked what he was looking at. He said someone was standing there, but there was nothing there at all."
"Do you think he's possessed or something? It's terrifying. Living with someone like that, even a healthy person would get scared sick."
Through the corridor window, Zhang Ze could see the scene inside.
It really was a little creepy.
But Zhang Ze had already prepared himself mentally, so he was not too frightened. Instead, his mind raced as he compared the scene before him to what he had seen in Lost Media No. 012.
Were they the same?
They were almost exactly the same.
After putting the pieces together in his mind, Zhang Ze felt that the footage had been surveillance footage—footage of something that had truly happened.
"Wait, that doesn't make sense."
"If this is the first time it happened today, why did I see the surveillance footage before the real incident occurred?"
As if suddenly realizing something, Zhang Ze grabbed Zhu Xiu's arm. "Is this your first time calling the police today?"
Zhu Xiu nodded blankly. "Yes. That old man had been acting strange the last two nights, and I was too scared to sleep. Today was the first time he did something like this. I couldn't take it anymore, so I called the police."
It was the first occurrence.
Sure enough, Zhang Ze had found the crux of the problem.
"Officer Kuai, don't you find this strange?"
"If this is the first scene of the incident, then what was that surveillance footage we saw?"
Zhang Ze said.
After hearing that, Kuai Liang also sensed that something was wrong. An inexplicable chill enveloped his body. After a long pause, he barely forced out a smile. "It was probably just a coincidence..."
He did not dare think any further.
It went too far against common sense.
The timeline simply could not be explained.
Seeing the two of them react in such unspoken agreement, Zhu Xiu was a little dumbfounded. Could it be that even the police had been scared?
Then what the hell was he supposed to do?
He might as well buy a block of tofu and smash himself to death with it.
This was fucking terrifying!
Kuai Liang forcibly pulled himself together, gathered his courage, and entered the ward to wake the strangely behaving old man.
The old man opened his eyes and looked around blankly. He seemed not to understand why this had happened or why he was standing again.
What followed was the usual procedure.
Persuasion, discussion, mediation.
Kuai Liang was already thoroughly familiar with these procedures.
But when he asked the old man why he had gotten up in the middle of the night and behaved that way, the old man trembled for a long time without managing to explain himself.
"Someone..."
"I heard someone calling me."
"There are three people staying in this ward..."
Kuai Liang's expression turned strange.
He truly suspected that this old man had mental problems.
Out of professional duty, Kuai Liang still carefully inspected the ward. There were only the old man and Zhu Xiu inside. The heart-rate monitors showed everything was normal. There was nothing unusual in the bathroom or wardrobe either. He ruled out everything that could have caused hallucinations.
He went out and spoke with the attending physician for a moment.
"Hmm... Strange words? Officer, security at our hospital is very strict. No unfamiliar outsider could have slipped in."
"Elderly people's brains often produce hallucinations. Or certain visual signals get processed and cause them to see strange things when a sleep disorder strikes. It's a condition science can explain, so there's no need to worry."
"Take sleep paralysis, for example. Science has already explained sleep paralysis. It's a type of sleep disorder. That patient may simply have been sleepwalking."
No matter what, the old man was quite obedient in front of the police. In the end, Zhu Xiu accepted civil mediation. The two old men shook hands and made peace, and nothing more bizarre happened.
Back in the police car.
Zhang Ze was still recalling what had just happened.
"Earlier than the real supernatural incident?"
"Could Lost Media be some kind of prophecy, predicting supernatural incidents that are about to happen?"
Zhang Ze still felt that something did not add up.
If it truly was a prophecy,
did all Lost Media possess prophetic supernatural properties, or was it only Lost Media No. 012 that had this trait?
Lost Media had, after all, been created by humans.
Humans instinctively preferred things with logic. The brain excelled at abstracting logical patterns from concrete things. It was a biological instinct carved into human genes.
Mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology—almost every natural science was built upon this ability. Even when facing supernatural events he could not accept, Zhang Ze almost instinctively tried to find some kind of pattern.
"If I had to name a pattern, the pattern Lost Media has shown is that it has no pattern. It's almost entirely random."
"How is that possible? Even serial killers follow certain patterns when they kill. The police are good at analyzing the logic behind those killings to catch criminals."
"Unless those videos were filmed by ghosts."
"But that doesn't make sense either. Ghosts are essentially dead people too. They should have patterns as well."
Zhang Ze felt like his head was about to explode.
He suddenly envied Boss Chen a little.
After all, Boss Chen hardly needed to think when solving supernatural incidents. If he could reform something with words, he reformed it with words. If words did not work, he could take out a sledgehammer and reform it anyway.
Compared to that, his own situation was hell difficulty.
