Background / History
Liu Wangzhou is the father of Liu Yunche and husband of Madam Liu. When Yunche is critically poisoned, Wangzhou urgently seeks Doctor Yun’s diagnosis and treatment, remaining beside his wife to comfort her through their son’s condition 1.
He is part of the East City branch of the Liu family, a branch that split from the main Liu Household decades earlier despite sharing a common ancestor. The two sides largely ceased contact after the separation, though the East City branch retained connections within the Prefecture City’s military 43.
More than twenty years before the main story, Wangzhou joined the Blood-Boiling Army under his father’s arrangements, where he met Lu Yuanhai, later known as Elder Lu. Their military friendship endures into the present 40.
His martial-world reputation was concealed from Liu Yunche until Elder Lu revealed his aliases: Liu Sansheng and Liu Sandao. Li Qinwu considers the former name sufficiently notorious to warn his son to be wary of Liu Yunche because of Wangzhou’s cunning 16.
Appearance
Liu Wangzhou is a middle-aged martial artist with sword-like brows, a calm expression, and a bearing shaped by long practice and responsibility. He commonly wears refined robes at home but changes into fitted martial attire when training or fighting 4 7.
- Carries himself with restrained steadiness rather than overt aggression 4.
- Uses a saber in training and during departures for dangerous campaigns 4 63.
- Can alter his appearance completely through Skin-Swapping Disguise 62.
Personality
Wangzhou is attentive and protective toward his family. He carefully supervises Liu Yunche’s early training, arranges medicinal food and secure meals after the poisoning incident, and provides martial resources without demanding that his son reveal the source of his unusual progress 5 40 91.
He values caution, patience, and concealment. He praises Yunche for investigating the poisoning matter without acting rashly, advises him to hide his strength in an increasingly chaotic world, and takes responsibility for retaliating against the Zheng Clan himself 13 40.
Beneath his composed manner is a decisive and ruthless martial temperament. He tells Yunche that the martial path is one of slaughter and hopes his son can kill decisively; when discussing those behind Yunche’s poisoning, he vows to “chop off the hand they used” 40.
