Because he often had to assist with Dr. Erskine's research, Han Lin moved near the laboratory. After completing the various small experiments assigned to him, he would watch Dr. Erskine develop a new Super Soldier Serum. Thanks to Han Lin's reminder, Dr. Erskine temporarily set aside his plans to study Han Lin's blood.
Allowing him to observe the development of the new drug, Dr. Erskine, who had already thought highly of Han Lin, did not guard against him too much.
During experiments, the doctor did not deliberately avoid him. Whenever he saw Han Lin taking an interest, he would patiently explain things to him. With Han Lin's exceptional learning and memory abilities, he quickly mastered this biological knowledge. Moreover, having lived in the twenty-first century, Han Lin's perspective and insight surpassed anything Dr. Erskine could match.
As a result, some of the opinions and suggestions he occasionally offered made Dr. Erskine approve even more of this genius youth with extraordinary physical abilities.
Astonished by Han Lin's genius-level learning ability, the doctor took Han Lin's proposed assistant position more seriously and began deliberately teaching Chen Mo biological knowledge.
Of course, no one but the doctor knew the core formula of the Super Soldier Serum. Dr. Erskine had once been controlled by Hydra in his early years and forced to enhance Red Skull Schmidt, so he had always harbored deep fear of Hydra.
He also worried that the formula might leak and be exploited by Hydra. Thus, in the movie, after his death, although Howard Stark created a simplified Super Soldier Serum based on the notes he left behind, it was stolen by the Winter Soldier Bucky, whom Hydra had sent.
Dr. Erskine and Howard Stark had some understanding of Han Lin's mindset. They believed Han Lin was someone who cared only about himself, and that everything he did now was for the sake of becoming stronger and ensuring he could survive in the future.
But people like that had one defining trait: when they themselves faced danger or their friends and family were threatened, they would step forward without hesitation to protect others. Thus, they reached an agreement with Colonel Phillips and Agent Carter: so long as Han Lin did nothing to endanger the country, the government would never classify him as a dangerous individual.
After learning this, Han Lin was delighted to have earned their recognition, and he promised that he could protect Steve through his first enhancement experiment.
Steve desperately needed this opportunity. It was a crucial turning point that would change his life. What Han Lin needed to do now was ensure that Steve received the enhancement according to the original plot, while also earning the trust of Colonel Phillips, Howard Stark, Dr. Erskine, and Agent Carter.
As the leaders of the Strategic Scientific Reserve and future founders of S.H.I.E.L.D., Han Lin felt it was necessary to change their tragic fates. He bore no ill will toward the doctor or Agent Carter. What he wanted to do was not merely for himself—it would also rewrite their original tragedies. Naturally, his conscience was clear.
None of their endings in the movie had been good. Dr. Erskine was killed in the laboratory by a Hydra spy after the serum enhancement experiment succeeded. Many years later, Howard was murdered by Bucky, the Winter Soldier who had been brainwashed and controlled by Hydra, and the inferior enhancement serum was stolen as well.
Although Steve and Carter were not killed, the pain they endured was actually deeper. They had finally found true love, only to be mercilessly torn apart by fate.
A full seventy years!
One lay frozen at the bottom of the sea, unconscious of the world, while the other grew old and frail as she waited. When they met again, everything had changed. In the end, Steve personally carried the coffin of the lover who had spent her life alone.
Now that Han Lin had come to this world, he did not want to become a mere spectator. He also needed a place where he could find a sense of belonging, so Han Lin would do everything in his power to change their fates.
Han Lin's conduct and behavior before them had already won the approval of Howard and Dr. Erskine. Once Colonel Phillips learned that Han Lin would choose to go to the battlefield and contribute to the Allied forces, he put aside his prejudice. As for Agent Carter, she was still hesitant. After all, she had not had much contact with Han Lin, so she remained somewhat guarded.
During Han Lin's experiments with Dr. Erskine, he increasingly came to admire this middle-aged gentleman. The doctor's enhancement serum involved many cutting-edge scientific theories absent from the modern body of knowledge.
As Han Lin's understanding of the Super Soldier Serum deepened, many of the ideas he proposed drew praise even from Dr. Erskine.
In his spare time, Han Lin went to Agent Carter to learn hand-to-hand combat.
As a senior agent, Carter had received highly formal training. She was proficient in close-quarters combat and skilled at using all sorts of weapons, including firearms and knives.
It was clear from the original work that Agent Carter could kill a Hydra spy driver from a distance with a pistol, showing just how formidable her skill with firearms was.
As for close-quarters combat, Han Lin knew absolutely nothing. Before transmigrating, he had worked many odd jobs, but martial arts, sanda, and fighting had nothing to do with a young man who disliked exercise. The only exposure he had ever had was choosing fitness Tai Chi for two years of college physical education classes so he could take it easy. Han Lin had tested it—the Tai Chi set had no effect whatsoever.
Han Lin knew that the Marvel Universe had internal energy. Iron Fist and Shang-Chi, both Marvel heroes, used internal energy. But after practicing that Tai Chi for two days, Han Lin found it utterly useless, so he asked Colonel Phillips to send someone to teach him combat skills.
Because Han Lin possessed Danger Perception and Dynamic Vision, Carter rarely managed to hit him during their sparring sessions. But such training was useless to Han Lin.
Han Lin called a halt to the training and hoped to see whether the system could disable those two abilities.
"Wait, I need to make some adjustments. This kind of training can't achieve the results I want. There's a saying in my hometown: if you want to learn how to hit people, you must first learn how to take a beating." Han Lin looked at Agent Carter, who was dressed in a tight-fitting outfit.
Agent Carter nodded. Originally, she had not wanted to personally instruct any one person, because her mission was to train the future first super soldier, and all she needed to do now was wait. But after getting to know Han Lin, she discovered that aside from his agility and immense strength, he had no technique at all.
Han Lin then asked the system, "System, can Danger Perception and Dynamic Vision be temporarily disabled?" Because they were passive skills, Han Lin did not know much about them or the system.
System: "Yes. The Auxiliary System only serves a supporting role. These issues occurred in the early stage because of insufficient energy, preventing complete integration with the host. Once the Blacklight System recovers, these abilities will become the host's instincts rather than appearing in the form of skills. To disable them, simply use your thoughts to state which passive skills you wish to turn off."
Han Lin sighed in relief. After disabling the two skills in his mind, he said to Carter, "All right. I won't dodge now, but I've never learned combat, so please go easy on me, beautiful."
"I'm coming!"
Carter rolled her eyes at Han Lin. With a soft shout, she darted forward and swung her pale fist, firing a straight punch rapidly toward Han Lin's chest.
Without Danger Perception or Dynamic Vision, Han Lin watched the incoming fist, unable to dodge in time. Carter's punch struck him squarely in the chest, forcing him back two steps. Rubbing his chest, Han Lin immediately grew serious, raised his head, and watched Carter warily.
Seeing Han Lin enter the right state, Carter nodded in satisfaction and threw another punch at him.
Once Han Lin got serious, although his combat skills were far inferior to Carter's, his strength and speed overwhelmingly surpassed hers. He used his hands to block her punches while his eyes swiftly tracked her fighting patterns.
Carter had also received professional combat training and possessed rich practical experience. Seeing Han Lin rely on his physique to withstand her attacks, she used every fighting technique she knew. With every move, Han Lin found it easier and easier to defend. Even without Dynamic Vision, Han Lin's reactions were exceptionally sharp. Thus, on the training ground, Carter could be seen attacking Han Lin relentlessly while Han Lin slowly learned her combat techniques.
As the days accumulated, Han Lin always used only ten percent of his strength when sparring with Agent Carter, so as not to injure her. From initially taking beatings, to gradually counterattacking once or twice, to eventually matching her evenly, the learning talent Han Lin displayed left Agent Carter utterly stunned.
