Han Lin followed General Phillips back to the Strategic Scientific Reserve camp. General Phillips quickly arranged for people to go to the armies of various countries and bring over the men Han Lin had rescued before.
Now, all they had to do was fully cooperate with Han Lin's requests and swiftly clear the battlefield.
Worried about his teammates' safety, Steve immediately took Han Lin to the camp's medical tent.
Looking at the three Howling Commandos members lying unconscious on crude stretcher beds, Han Lin felt an inexplicable bitterness in his heart.
Ever since arriving in this world, Han Lin had hoped to change something. Yet the people around him had still ended up like this. He did not know whether it was fate's arrangement or heaven playing a cruel joke.
He only wanted to end this war as quickly as possible. The only thing he could do was defeat Hydra soon. Without Hydra's scientific research capabilities, Hitler would be like a venomous snake without fangs, and the scales of war would slowly tip.
Of the three, Nick Fury was the most severely injured. Seeing his body covered in mild burns and one eye swollen like a goldfish's, Han Lin knew his injuries were grave.
In the medical system of later generations, these injuries should have been easy to treat. But it was now early 1944. Even with countless wounded soldiers to practice on, there was no way to cure burn victims.
The exposed subcutaneous tissue came into direct contact with the bacteria and microorganisms filling the air, providing ideal conditions for reproduction. The field doctors could only use antibiotics to keep Nick Fury alive.
Han Lin quickly walked to the bedside and took a metal box from the armory. Inside were five emerald-green glass vials. Whether Nick Fury could survive depended on the effects of this Infinite Formula.
Dr. Erskine had said that the Infinite Formula's strength lay in its healing abilities, its capacity to delay aging, and its enhancement of the body. Though it was not as powerful as the Super Soldier Serum in strengthening the body, its cellular activation far surpassed the latter.
Han Lin turned to look at Steve and Carter, took out a vial of Infinite Formula, and injected it into Nick Fury's muscle tissue with a specialized syringe.
As the injection entered, the pained expression unconsciously displayed on Nick Fury's face gradually eased. The swelling in his eye quietly subsided as well, and his expression slowly settled.
He injected the other two teammates with Infinite Formula as well. Seeing the obvious improvement in all three of them, Han Lin let out a breath. As long as things were moving in a better direction, that was the best outcome.
Although these medicines were extremely expensive, these men had faced life and death alongside him and Steve. If they had the chance to return, Han Lin would definitely have them join S.H.I.E.L.D. The Infinite Formula would be their first step toward becoming stronger.
Even the most expensive medicine had to be used on the right people, or what was the point of making it? Besides, Han Lin was no longer short on money. The forty acres on the North Shore of Long Island and his Stark Industries shares were both part of his capital.
Han Lin looked at the three men whose complexions had improved, called over a field doctor, and gave him some precautions. If anything happened to the three of them, he only needed to notify Han Lin immediately.
The field doctor had originally been quite displeased. He was already busy enough, and now someone was giving him more work. Who did he think he was? But when he suddenly saw Steve, the symbol of the United States, standing behind Han Lin as his backing, he silently swallowed his complaints. These were people he could not afford to offend.
Han Lin did not stay long. He left the medical tent with Steve and Carter, watching the busy field doctors sort the wounded into categories—those who could be saved and those who could not.
Black cloth tied around the wrist meant death, red meant critical condition, yellow meant priority treatment, and green meant minor injuries.
Doctors moved through the camp, each performing his own duty and holding fast to his work.
Han Lin shook his head, driving the unpleasant thoughts from his mind, then headed for General Phillips's tent.
Inside the command tent, soldiers were rapidly setting up a large sand table of the European battlefield. All kinds of maps and documents were being hurried into the tent.
Han Lin knew that General Eisenhower had moved the entire combat command headquarters here. These operators had been assigned to obey every order.
Han Lin knew this was a convenience arranged for him. Whether Hydra existed or not was no longer important. This time, Han Lin's unit would not report through any military command system. That way, no matter where he appeared, he would not end up being stabbed in the back.
Han Lin could also use false intelligence to see whether he could uncover any Hydra spies among them.
After speaking to General Phillips, the two headed to the camp where the Howling Commandos were stationed. They all had injuries to varying degrees. When the four entered one after another, the remaining seven members of the Howling Commandos quickly rose to their feet and saluted them.
After signaling everyone to sit, Han Lin took out a radio interference device. He had asked Howard to make it long ago, but he had never expected there to be spies in the military, so it had never been used. He then unfolded a map across the table, marked with the locations of various bases and the extensions of the front lines.
Han Lin looked at the numerous frontline camps and research bases, then spoke quietly. "Of the six research bases discovered last time, Steve only captured two. We need to take down the rest of their bases first."
"We failed to take the previous research base and were even tricked by them. So our next target will be this place, because they will never expect us to come back after suffering such a huge loss."
"Everyone has arrogance. Our previous failure will make them lower their guard. This will be the first point of our counterattack."
"Then, this time, besides leading you in a large-scale sweep, we will not be aiming for a sneak attack. We will fight a frontal war."
"Steve and I will break through their defenses, then you will lead the main force in an assault on their camp. There may be many casualties, but this is necessary in war. We must uproot the remaining four research bases as quickly as possible and delay Schmidt's construction of the Valkyrie."
"General, quickly pull those five thousand men out of the armies of various countries. Then requisition all the energy tanks, artillery vehicles, weapons, and energy magazines we seized from the enemy. What we need is a force armed to the teeth."
Colonel Phillips nodded and rose, walking toward his command headquarters.
Han Lin said to Steve, "There isn't much time. Nick and the others will wake up in two or three days at most. I don't know whether they can immediately rejoin the team."
"My original plan was for Nick to command the unit as a whole. But if he does not wake up, then I need someone who can lead the team. You are the best choice. What do you think?"
Steve pondered for a moment before saying, "If Nick has not woken up after three days, I'll lead the team, and you can break through their defenses. Take the shield with you!"
With the plan settled, everyone waited for all preparations to be completed before officially setting out.
