Nature and Function

Essence is the foundational power of Martial Dao. A Martial Art’s Form is described as the materialization of Essence, while a cultivator’s access to higher realms depends on developing, storing, and controlling it. 33

Before a person becomes a Martial Artist, their Essence Apertures remain sealed and restrict the body’s potential. A constitution strong enough for Martial Artist-level cultivation is required before those apertures can be activated. 33

Essence Apertures

The standard Martial Artist path involves activating ninety-nine Essence Apertures. Once all are open, the Martial Form undergoes another transformation. 33

• Essence Apertures are fragile and can be damaged by forcing excessive Essence through them without support from resources such as Refining Liquid and Essence Paste. 33
• Chen Xu’s full activation of ninety-nine Essence Apertures produced the manifestation of the Netherworld Wisdom King. 138
• An unusually deep reserve of Essence allows a cultivator to activate multiple apertures in succession rather than requiring recovery after each one. 56

Nine-Aperture Method

The Blood Rushing Nine Apertures Breakthrough Method teaches that humans possess nine major apertures: four in the limbs, four in the torso, and the Heaven Gate Aperture between the brows. 17

• Opening the Heaven Gate Aperture can awaken Martial Dao spirituality and evolve a Martial Art’s Form. 17
• The method’s creator rejects directly opening the Heaven Gate as a shortcut, maintaining that all nine apertures must be opened to pursue the peak of Martial Dao. 17

Meridian Linking and Reincarnation

When nine Essence Apertures connect, they form a meridian; completing the first meridian marks entry into Martial Momentum. 56 157

Essence Manifestations

Martial Form

Martial Form is the outward expression of a cultivator’s Essence and Martial Dao spirituality. The Form of Martial Arts is explicitly identified as Essence materialized into a tangible or semi-tangible manifestation. 33

• Incomplete Forms may appear as partially sketched beasts or other images behind a cultivator. 40
• Chen Xu’s Martial Form changed from the Armored Blood Tiger to the Beast Bronze Statue after he fused several martial arts. 31
• A cultivator may destroy their own Martial Form for a brief burst of peak strength, as Guan Zizai does for his final attack. 182

Materialized Momentum

Martial Momentum normally remains an illusory projection, but sufficient Essence can partially make it real. 157

• Essence Apertures cannot safely withstand uncontrolled surges of Essence without suitable constitution and cultivation resources. 33
