Background / History

Dugu Bo endured the backlash of the Jade-Scaled Serpent Emperor Poison for much of his life, using the spring at the Ice-Fire Yin-Yang Eyes to suppress it. The poison also afflicted his family: his son and daughter-in-law died from serpent-venom backlash, leaving Dugu Bo determined to protect his granddaughter, Dugu Yan 4 6.

Lu Li discovered Dugu Bo at the Ice-Fire Yin-Yang Eyes and exposed his secret condition. Believing Lu Li to be an unfathomable senior disguised as a child, Dugu Bo agreed to pay all the Gold Soul Coins he possessed if Lu Li could cure both him and Dugu Yan 4 5.

Lu Li gave him an Earth Dragon Golden Melon. Its effects removed Dugu Bo's chronic poison, restored his comfort after more than a decade of pain, altered his Jade-Scaled Serpent Emperor toward a more draconic form, and raised him from Rank 91 to the peak of Rank 92 5 6. In return, Dugu Bo provided 1.2 million Gold Soul Coins immediately and promised the remaining 1.3 million, along with future annual payments 6.

Following the cure, Dugu Bo became a loyal and highly deferential ally of Lu Li. He gave Lu Li a residence in Heaven Dou City, assisted with requests without probing for explanations, and sought opportunities to introduce Dugu Yan to him 8 62 63.

After his detoxification, Dugu Bo became visibly more vigorous: his hair changed from emerald-green to jet-black, his posture straightened, his complexion regained color, and the fishy odor surrounding him disappeared 6 62.

Dugu Bo is cautious, pragmatic, and deeply aware of the gap between his strength and that of truly overwhelming opponents. When Lu Li arrived with Little Yellow, he initially considered escape, then carefully tested Lu Li's claims before accepting the possibility of a cure 4 5.

His solitary reputation contrasts with his strong sense of obligation. Once Lu Li cured him, Dugu Bo treated the debt as a debt to the entire Dugu family and repeatedly pledged his aid. He also values relationships and favors highly, initially preferring Lu Li to owe him a favor rather than accept the Eight Spider Lances 62 63 93.

Dugu Bo is fiercely protective of Dugu Yan. His willingness to surrender his life for a cure was driven primarily by his wish to see her grow up safely, and his long-term goal after recovering was simply to be strong enough to protect her 5 62.

Heaven Dou City and Political Visits

After returning to Heaven Dou City, Dugu Bo receives Prince Xue Xing and Crown Prince Xue Qinghe while concealing Lu Li’s true importance by presenting him as a distant relative. He later gives Lu Li a separate residence in the city 7 8.

Service to Lu Li

Six years later, Dugu Bo continues delivering payments to Lu Li and offers assistance after sensing a major disturbance near Lu Li’s residence. Lu Li directs him to retrieve Tang San from Shrek Academy and bring him to the Ice-Fire Yin-Yang Eyes 62 63.

Shrek Academy Raid

Dugu Bo arrives at Shrek Academy, easily repels Liu Erlong and Flender, captures Tang San, and discovers Xiao Wu’s Spirit Beast identity. He takes both to the Ice-Fire Yin-Yang Eyes, then releases Xiao Wu when Lu Li reveals he has other plans for her 64 65.

Eight Spider Lances and Tang Hao’s Attack

Lu Li gifts the Eight Spider Lances to Dugu Bo as repayment for his help. Shortly afterward, Tang Hao attacks near Lu Li’s residence; Dugu Bo witnesses Dragon One defeat and kill Tang Hao, reinforcing his belief that Lu Li’s power is beyond his comprehension 93 95 96.
